Paul Thomas Anderson\u2019s \u201cOne Battle After Another\u201d<\/a> scored a leading nine nominations to the 83rd Golden Globe Awards on Monday, adding to the Oscar favorite\u2019s momentum<\/a> and handing Warner Bros. a victory amid its deal to be acquired by Netflix.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cOne Battle After Another\u201d landed nominations for its cast \u2014 Leonardo DiCaprio, Teyana Taylor, Sean Penn and Chase Infiniti \u2014 along with nods for Anderson\u2019s screenplay and direction. It\u2019s competing in the Globes\u2019 category for comedy and musicals.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Close on its heels was Joachim Trier\u2019s \u201cSentimental Value,\u201d a Norwegian family drama about a filmmaking family. The Neon release\u2019s eight nominations included nods for four of its actors: Stellan Skarsg\u00e5rd, Renate Reinsve, Elle Fanning and Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The Globe nominations, a tattered but persistent rite in Hollywood, are coming on the heels of the a potentially seismic shift in entertainment. On Friday, Netflix<\/a> struck a deal to buy Warner Bros. Discovery for $72 billion. If approved, the deal would reshape Hollywood<\/a> and put one of its most storied movie studios in the hands of the streaming giant.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Both companies are prominent in this year\u2019s awards season. Along with \u201cOne Battle After Another,\u201d Warner Bros. has \u201cSinners,\u201d Ryan Coogler\u2019s acclaimed vampire hit. It was nominated for seven awards by the Globes, including box office achievement.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Netflix\u2019s contenders include Noah Baumbach\u2019s \u201cJay Kelly,\u201d Guillermo del Toro\u2019s \u201cFrankenstein\u201d and the streaming smash hit, \u201cKPop Demon Hunters.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Nominations were read by Marlon Wayans and Skye P. Marshall, from Beverly Hills, California.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

As the Globes continue to transition out of their scandal-plagued past<\/a>, there\u2019s one notable change this year. For the first time, the Globes are giving a best podcast trophy. The inaugural nominees are \u201cArmchair Expert With Dax Shepard,\u201d \u201cCall Her Daddy,\u201d \u201cGood Hang With Amy Poehler,\u201d \u201cThe Mel Robbins Podcast,\u201d \u201cSmartLess\u201d and NPR\u2019s \u201cUp First.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

After a series of controversies for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the group that previously put on the ceremony, the Globes were sold in 2023 to Todd Boehly\u2019s Eldridge Industries and Dick Clark Productions, a part of Penske Media. A new, larger voting body of more than 300 people now vote on the awards, which moved from NBC to CBS on a shorter, less expensive deal.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Nikki Glaser<\/a> is returning as host to the Jan. 11 Globes, airing on CBS and streaming on Paramount+. This past January, Glaser won good reviews for her first time emceeing the ceremony. Ratings were essentially unchanged, slightly dipping to 9.3 million viewers, according to Nielsen, from 9.4 million in 2024.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In the early going in Hollywood\u2019s awards season, Anderson\u2019s \u201cOne Battle After Another\u201d has dominated<\/a> and is seen as the Oscar best picture front-runner. Also in the mix are Chlo\u00e9 Zhao\u2019s \u201cHamnet,\u201d<\/a> Trier\u2019s \u201cSentimental Value\u201d<\/a> and Josh Safdie\u2019s \u201cMarty Supreme.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Helen Mirren<\/a> will receive the Cecil B. DeMille Award in a separate prime-time special airing Jan. 8. Sarah Jessica Parker<\/a> will be honored with the Carol Burnett Award.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
