Meghan Markle has made “progress” in trying to contact her dad following his hospital dash, according to a source.<\/p>\n

Thomas Markle was rushed to hospital in the Philippines last week over a medical emergency. The 81-year-old has now been moved from the ICU after undergoing surgery<\/a> to amputate his left leg below the knee.<\/p>\n

The operation needed to be carried out after a blood clot blocked circulation to the limb<\/a>, leaving doctors concerned about the possibility of widespread infection. Reports suggested Meghan reached out via email following the news, but Meghan’s sister Samantha claimed they didn’t receive any news<\/a> from the Duchess of Sussex.<\/p>\n

Amid the differing reports, a source has now claimed “progress” has been made towards opening up communication between Meghan and her father.<\/p>\n

Speaking to GB News<\/a>, the source said there had not been any direct contact between the pair as of Monday night, but added that it is “hoped and expected that there will be some form of communication in the next 24 hours.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Thomas’ surgeon, Dr Neil Sanico, has confirmed the three-hour procedure to amputate his leg has been successful. Thomas has now been moved from the ICU to a standard hospital ward and started gentle physiotherapy as part of the early stages of his recovery.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the Daily Mail<\/a>, he said, “Mr Markle is making good progress. He has a long road to recovery ahead of him, but moving out of the ICU and into a regular room is a positive step.”<\/p>\n

Dr. Sanico explained they had “no option” but to amputate Thomas’ leg as attempting to remove the blood clot was considered too risky due to the potential for a full-body infection.<\/p>\n

“There was a danger of gangrene setting in,” he added, while also praising Thomas for being a “strong and brave man.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Meghan and her dad have been estranged for years, with their relationship breaking down shortly before the Duchess of Sussex married Prince Harry<\/a> in 2018.<\/p>\n

Thomas had been caught before the wedding staging photographs with the paparazzi. He then withdrew from attending the ceremony due to health complications, meaning the then-Prince Charles had to step in to walk Meghan down the aisle.<\/p>\n

The pair have since had limited communication, with Thomas having never met his son-in-law or his two grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. The former Hollywood lighting director has made repeated pleas to reunite with his daughter before it’s too late.<\/p>\n
