Paul Dano<\/strong> wasn\u2019t Quentin Tarantino<\/strong>\u2019s only victim on The Bret Easton Podcast last week. The director also said he \u201cdoesn\u2019t care for\u201d actor Matthew Lillard<\/strong>. Lillard\u2019s response? He doesn\u2019t care for Tarantino either. But also, has Tarantino not seen the live action Scooby Doo movie? Because there\u2019s just no way you could watch that film and feel anything but overwhelming affection for Lillard\u2019s Shaggy. [Editor\u2019s note: But also,\u00a0Scream?\u00a0Summer Catch?\u00a0She\u2019s All That?!?!?!!]<\/span><\/p>\n

While speaking at GalaxyCon<\/span><\/a> in Columbus, Ohio, over the weekend, Lillard addressed Tarantino\u2019s comments, saying, \u201cQuentin Tarantino this week said that he doesn\u2019t like me as an actor. Eh, whatever. Who gives a shit?\u201d he told the very supportive audience. \u201cListen, the point is that it hurts your feelings,\u201d he continued. \u201cIt fuckin\u2019 sucks. And you wouldn\u2019t say that to Tom Cruise<\/strong>. You wouldn\u2019t say that to somebody who\u2019s a top-line actor in Hollywood.\u201d (I think many people would be far <\/span>more<\/span><\/i> likely to say it about Cruise, but that\u2019s beside the point.)\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Lillard\u2019s overall point was this: \u201cI\u2019m very popular in this room. I\u2019m not very popular in Hollywood. Two totally different microcosms, right? And so, you know, it\u2019s humbling, and it hurts.\u201d So basically, Tarantino went on a podcast and hurt Lillard\u2019s feelings out of nowhere and for no good reason. <\/span>Folks, we ride at dawn.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The comments about Lillard were part of Tarantino\u2019s larger podcast tirade, where he came for everything from <\/span>The Hunger Games<\/span><\/i> franchise<\/span><\/a> (a \u201ctotal ripoff\u201d of the 2000 Japanese film <\/span>Battle Royale<\/span><\/i>) and Dano, whom he called a \u201cbig, giant flaw\u201d in Paul Thomas Anderson<\/strong>\u2019s <\/span>There Will Be Blood <\/span><\/i>and \u201cthe weakest fucking actor in SAG.\u201d For the <\/span>Who Weekly?<\/span><\/i> fans among us, this is an acute case of a condition we call \u201cpodcast mouth.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Tarantino\u2019s comments have led to a slew of bad press, as both <\/span>Hunger Games<\/span><\/i> and Dano fans rose up to defend their faves. Following Tarantino\u2019s criticism, a bunch of\u00a0<\/span>A-listers also defended<\/span><\/a> the <\/span>Little Miss Sunshine<\/span><\/i> star, including, Reese Witherspoon<\/strong> (\u201cIncredibly gifted, versatile\u201d and \u201ca gentleman\u201d), Ben Stiller<\/strong> (\u201cFucking brilliant\u201d), Simu Liu<\/strong> (\u201cAn incredible actor\u201d), Alec Baldwin<\/strong> (\u201cIf you don\u2019t love Paul Dano, shh.\u201d) Josh Gad<\/strong> (\u201cOne of the best actors of our time. Full stop.), and, most notably, his <\/span>There Will Be Blood<\/span><\/i> co-star Daniel Day-Lewis<\/strong>, who called Dano \u201cOne of the best actors of his generation.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

So we now must call upon Hollywood to rise and defend Matthew Lillard with the same vigor. Also, we must ask, is Quentin OK? I mean, the answer obviously is and always will be no, but damn. Why is he being so mean?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

And for the record, <\/span>Hunger Games<\/span><\/i> and <\/span>Battle Royale<\/span><\/i> are very different.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n
