Jessica Simpson<\/strong><\/a> opened up about her pop star past during a recent concert.<\/p>\n

The singer, 45, was performing at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut, on Sunday, December 7, when she began talking about how much she loved working on her latest music in Nashville.<\/p>\n

\u201cI do love Nashville. It brought me home to myself,\u201d Simpson told the crowd, per social media footage<\/a> shared by an attendee. \u201cIt brought me inside of my heart in a really hard time of my life. I just kind of had to surrender myself to my intuition, to the light that was in front of me, and just focus on that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Simpson went on to hint that she struggled with her self-esteem during her early years as a musician<\/a>. (She signed her first record deal at age 17 and released her debut album, Sweet Kisses<\/em>, two years later.)<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tJessica Simpson is ready for her on-stage comeback! The singer, 44, returned to stage for the first time in over a decade, performing at the Recording Academy\u2019s Austin Chapter Block Party during SXSW in Austin, Texas on Wednesday, March 12. \u201cLast night, was my first performance in 15 years,\u201d she wrote via her Instagram account [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cMy whole music career, I had a job, and it was to be a pop star,\u201d she said on Sunday. \u201cAnd I tried. But I will say, when you\u2019re younger, you just never feel good enough. And it\u2019s OK to not feel good enough.\u201d<\/p>\n

Simpson made her return to music<\/a> earlier this year after spending more than a decade away from the industry. She released the first part of her Nashville Canyon<\/em> EP in March and performed her first concert that same month.<\/p>\n

\u201cLast night, was my first performance in 15 years,\u201d she wrote via Instagram at the time. \u201cIt was an emotional coming back home to the best part of myself. Thank you for embracing me. You know that I have so much to say, but this lucky voice gets to soar again tonight. I love y\u2019all. More to come\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

Six months later, Simpson released the second part of the Nashville Canyon<\/em> EP<\/a>, which she recorded with country veterans including JD McPherson<\/strong> and Sista Strings.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s been so amazing to remove myself from my life as it was, because it\u2019s hard for me to be creative when I\u2019m taking care of everybody,\u201d Simpson told Rolling Stone<\/em> of recording in Nashville. \u201cAnd it\u2019s hard for me to convince myself that I needed to be selfish as a mother and as a business owner. I had to literally uproot myself.\u201d<\/p>\n

Simpson\u2019s return to music came amid her separation<\/a> from husband Eric Johnson<\/strong>, with whom she shares three children: daughters Maxwell, 13, and Birdie, 6, and son Ace, 12.<\/p>\n

\u201cEric and I have been living separately navigating a painful situation in our marriage,\u201d Simpson told Us Weekly<\/em> in a statement in January. \u201cOur children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them. We are grateful for all of the love and support that has been coming our way, and appreciate privacy right now as we work through this as a family.\u201d<\/p>\n

One month later, Simpson praised Johnson, 46, for supporting her return to music.<\/p>\n
