The holiday season is traditionally a time of joy and togetherness. But after a year that\u2019s been overshadowed by scandal, the Prince and Princess of Wales<\/a> are grappling with what may be the royal family\u2019s toughest test \u2013 a reunion with Prince Harry and the Duchess of Sussex<\/a>!<\/p>\n New reports suggest Harry, 41, and his wife Meghan, 44, are set to return to the UK for their first British Christmas in five years. They have been invited to Princess Diana\u2019s childhood home<\/a>, Althorp House, by Harry\u2019s uncle, Earl Spencer.<\/p>\n It\u2019s a situation palace insiders describe as William and Kate\u2019s \u201cworst nightmare\u201d.<\/p>\n A well-placed source reports, \u201cThey will, as always, be at Sandringham with King Charles, Queen Camilla<\/a> and the wider royals, but the thought of crossing paths with the Sussexes has left the couple deeply rattled. Kate\u2019s adamant they won\u2019t ruin their family Christmas.\u201d<\/p>\n In 2024, Harry reportedly turned down the same invite from his uncle, 61, saying the timing wasn\u2019t right. This year, however, the prince seems keen to expose his kids to their British heritage. Prince Archie is six, and Princess Lilibet<\/a> is four. He has even suggested they may go to school in the UK, despite Meghan\u2019s concerns.<\/p>\n \u201cI would love a reconciliation with my family,\u201d Harry declared earlier this year. <\/p>\n \u201cThere\u2019s no point in continuing to fight any more. Life is precious.\u201d<\/p>\n Our insider adds, \u201cHarry\u2019s adamant he wants to build a bridge back to the family. He sees this as a chance to reset, but Meghan worries about the security environment and what travelling with two small children under such arrangements might mean in practice.\u201d<\/p>\n Meanwhile, William and Kate, both 43, aren\u2019t ready to reconcile with the Sussexes any time soon. We\u2019re told they\u2019ll do whatever it takes to protect the royal legacy of their kids, Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, seven.<\/p>\n \u201cWilliam still feels utterly betrayed with everything that\u2019s happened,\u201d shares the source. <\/p>\n \u201cHe\u2019s not ready to forgive \u2013 and Kate is furious. She doesn\u2019t want to be forced into the same room as Meghan, full stop. \u201cFor Kate in particular, the tension with Meghan has become the hardest battle. The feud between the two women runs even deeper than anything between the brothers. They just can\u2019t stand each other. \u201cIt\u2019s tough because Kate has a lot on her plate. She\u2019s still following the advice of her doctors, which is to rest and avoid stressful situations, but she\u2019s mindful this needs to be managed delicately and that\u2019s no easy task.\u201d<\/p>\n Even if their paths don\u2019t cross at Christmas, it seems the Waleses and Sussexes are on course for a US collision in 2026. William and Harry are both making top-secret security arrangements to support England and Scotland at next year\u2019s FIFA World Cup.<\/p>\n There are also plans for the royal family to mark the 250th anniversary of Independence Day with an official tour of the US. An early July itinerary is now being drafted for the King, 77, and Queen, 78, and possibly for William and Kate as well.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s one of the biggest diplomatic moments of the decade,\u201d explains a senior courtier. <\/p>\n \u201cThe King is to lead the charge, but William and Kate are ready to fly the flag. The palace wants them involved. \u201cThis isn\u2019t just another royal tour \u2013 it\u2019s a statement. America has become the Sussexes\u2019 playground, but the Waleses are showing they can own that stage too, with grace, duty and real star power.\u201d<\/p>\n Charles is grateful for his eldest son and daughter-in-law\u2019s support. Behind closed doors, however, we\u2019re told the divide between the two brothers puts him in a very tricky position.<\/p>\n Our source says, \u201cIf Harry and Meghan visit the UK with their children, Charles will no doubt want to spend time with them. He hasn\u2019t seen his grandchildren in more than three years.\u201d<\/p>\n The princess might be feeling stressed, but it didn\u2019t show. She and William attended a formal state banquet in honour of German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier at Windsor Castle last week.<\/p>\n Wearing the rarely seen Oriental Circlet Tiara, originally set with 2,600 diamonds for Queen Victoria, Kate sparkled in a sequined Jenny Packham<\/a> gown at the dinner.
