MANCHESTER \u2014 Southern Vermont Ballet will present its 5th annual production of “The Nutcracker” this weekend at the Southern Vermont Arts Center.<\/p>\n
Featuring over 50 local children and teens, this family-friendly, abridged adaptation of the classic Tchaikovsky ballet has become a cherished tradition, offering audiences of all ages an enchanting start to the holiday season.<\/p>\n
Performances will take place on Saturday, Dec. 13 at 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., and Sunday, December 14 at 1 p.m. Concessions and ballet merchandise will be available for purchase with cash or check at the theater. Tickets are available at southernvermontballet.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n Founded in 2021 by Vermont native Hayley Appelman, Southern Vermont Ballet began with just 30 students. In only four years, the studio has grown to more than 200 dancers, becoming a vibrant, supportive after-school home where young dancers can explore the art of ballet in a joyful and nurturing environment. The studio offers more than 25 classes per week, serving dancers from age 1.5 through adult, with instruction in ballet, jazz, pointe, modern, and lyrical.<\/p>\n Appelman began her own ballet training in Brattleboro and is a graduate of Burr and Burton Academy. During high school at BBA, Appelman commuted to Brattleboro six days a week to pursue her passion studying ballet. She went on to earn her BFA in Dance from SUNY Purchase College and enjoyed a performance career in New York City before teaching for over a decade at Cobble Hill Ballet in Brooklyn.<\/p>\n Registration for the Winter\/Spring 2026 semester opens January 12 and runs through May.
