It\u2019s that time of year when Variety selects actors and pairs them up with other actors so they can endlessly compliment each other and discuss the agony and ecstasy of Acting. If there\u2019s a specific actor who bugs you, this annual ritual will annoy you to no end. But\u00a0if there\u2019s an actor you very recently became obsessed with, then it\u2019s great! So, as a brand-new<\/a> Jacob Elordi<\/strong> superfan\u2013while I was deeply bummed he wasn\u2019t wearing his Heathcliff costume<\/a>\u2014I loved his conversation with Gwyneth Paltrow<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Mostly, I loved learning that Elordi is a witchy little manifestation queen who envisioned working with director Guillermo del Toro<\/strong> when he was a kid, and pretty much spoke the role of Frankenstein into existence a year before he was cast.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is a pinch-me moment,\u201d he told<\/a> Paltrow of the success and reception of Frankenstein. \u201cBecause really, the dream I had when I was laying in my bed\u2026literally part of that dream was working with Guillermo del Toro.\u201d He continued: \u201cBecause I\u2019d seen Pan\u2019s Labryinth when I was maybe 13 or 14\u2026and I was into monsters and all these sorts of things, and I remember seeing that film and keeping it with me somewhere.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNow to be on a plane with him, even to watch the film and see his name come up\u2026it\u2019s absolutely surreal,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Paltrow commented that he, indeed, \u201cmanifested it,\u201d allowing Elordi to reveal how he actually got the part. Basically, the hair and makeup team for Priscilla\u00a0\u2014in which Elordi stars as Elvis\u2014were working on Frankenstein afterwards, and Elordi told them he was destined to be in the film.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile I was playing Elvis, I had this kind of unnatural sort of pluck and confidence,\u201d he said. \u201cI remember I said to her [the hairstylist], \u2018Oh, I\u2019m supposed to be in that movie,\u2019\u2026and she goes, \u2018Well, we have an actor, so you\u2019re not meant to be in it.’\u201d But, a year later, when the actor dropped out, the hair and makeup team told del Toro to check out Elordi. His power!<\/p>\n

He also said when he first got the screenplay, he \u201cturned all the lights off in my house and lit everything with candles,\u201d to read the script. Witchy! \u201cI just had a feeling that I needed to do something to get a spark back,\u201d he said. \u201cSo I really made a meal out of it.\u201d<\/p>\n

He didn\u2019t say much about the upcoming\u00a0Wuthering Heights, in which he stars as Heathcliff\u2014and in which the trailer has sent me into a feral frenzy\u2014except to say that<\/a> \u201cit\u2019s really good\u201d and he thinks Gwyneth will like it. I continue to manifest that Emerald Fennell<\/strong>\u2018s take on Emily Bront\u00eb<\/strong>\u2018s novel does indeed end up being a phenomenal, generational film. Hopefully, Elordi\u2019s manifestation powers were working behind the scenes too\u2014 because I cannot be the only one manifesting myself into a Victorian grave over this movie.<\/p>\n\n
