The family of a man who died on a Royal Caribbean<\/a> cruise ship in December 2024 recently filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the cruise liner.<\/p>\n

The lawsuit accused the company of intoxicating Michael Virgil on a \u201cNavigator of the Seas\u201d cruise by serving him 33 drinks and using \u201cexcessive force\u201d against him before his death, according to KTLA.<\/a><\/p>\n

Virgil, 35, died on Dec. 13, 2024, while on a four-day cruise from Los Angeles to Ensenada, Mexico, with his fianc\u00e9e, son and his family.<\/p>\n

Virgil took part in the ship\u2019s all-inclusive \u201cDeluxe Beverage\u201d package and was served at least 33 alcoholic beverages before his death, the lawsuit claims.<\/p>\n

The family\u2019s lawsuit claims he became visibly intoxicated and agitated, but crew members allegedly kept serving him drinks anyway.<\/p>\n

Royal Caribbean security allegedly tackled him, used pepper spray against him, injected him with the sedative Haloperidol and detained him before his death.<\/p>\n

According to The celebrity.land<\/a>, an autopsy report ruled he \u201chad a blood alcohol level of 0.182 to 0.186 percent.\u201d<\/p>\n

Staff also allegedly stuffed Virgil\u2019s body in a refrigerator until the ship returned to port in Los Angeles on Dec. 16, 2024.<\/p>\n

The FBI opened an investigation into the death at the time, and the death was eventually ruled a homicide.<\/p>\n

Royal Caribbean released a statement at the time saying it was \u201csaddened\u201d by Virgil\u2019s death and would be cooperating with authorities, but wouldn\u2019t comment on pending litigation.<\/p>\n

According to The Los Angeles Times<\/a>, Virgil\u2019s family is seeking multiple damages, not limited to \u201closs of support, inheritance, and medical and funeral expenses.\u201d<\/p>\n
