{"id":2193916,"date":"2025-12-10T19:18:57","date_gmt":"2025-12-10T19:18:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/?p=2193916"},"modified":"2025-12-10T19:18:57","modified_gmt":"2025-12-10T19:18:57","slug":"kylie-minogue-on-holiday-traditions-her-new-christmas-album","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/kylie-minogue-on-holiday-traditions-her-new-christmas-album\/","title":{"rendered":"Kylie Minogue On Holiday Traditions &#038; Her New Christmas Album"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div data-adroot=\"true\">\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nylon.com\/fashion\/jpg-x-jimmy-choo-collab\" class=\"T3D\">Kylie Minogue<\/a> is back with another album for the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nylon.com\/beauty\/sabrina-carpenter-short-n-sweet-tour-nails-tutorial\" class=\"T3D\">holidays<\/a> \u2014 but she\u2019s already thinking ahead to Christmas album No. 3. \u201cThere\u2019s another couple [songs] we\u2019ve got; they\u2019ll be on the shelf until next time,\u201d Minogue tells NYLON.<\/p>\n<p>This approach already seems to be working well for Minogue: <em>Kylie Christmas (Fully Wrapped), <\/em>an updated version of her 2015 Christmas project, features all of the great holiday classics that graced the first record, as well as four new tracks including the Amazon Music Original \u201cXmas,\u201d a jolly ol\u2019 banger that\u2019s been \u201cliving rent-free\u201d in the singer\u2019s head for 10 years. \u201c[<em>Kylie Christmas<\/em>] was finished, and my guitarist and I, we were just mucking around and had this idea,\u201d she says. \u201cAnd [I] thought, \u201c\u2018Oh, well, let\u2019s work on that another time.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But before she gets back to the studio, Minogue needs some time to reflect on the year that was. \u201cI don\u2019t know that I\u2019ve ever really had it this strongly before to take stock of the year,\u201d she says. \u201cThe Christmas album, this <i>Fully Wrapped<\/i> [version], is in many ways, the icing on the cake of an incredible 2025 for me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To celebrate the new album, we caught up with the Aussie superstar over Zoom to talk all things Christmas and her plans for 2026.<\/p>\n<div style=\"max-width:854px;\" class=\"sWr iGR vrU\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><noscript><\/p>\n<div class=\"jeg_video_container jeg_video_content\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Kylie Minogue - Office Party (Official Video)\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/nXAg9YbtR9s?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p><\/noscript><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>You just released a new version of your Christmas album 10 years after its initial release. What made you want to revisit this project?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I think the 10th anniversary of <em>Kylie Christmas<\/em> was the perfect time. It\u2019s been an incredible year. And it\u2019s so fun to be in the studio and explore Christmas again with three people I adore. I don\u2019t think any of us really consider it work. We just love making music together.<\/p>\n<p><strong>I feel like people view Christmas albums as easy cash grabs. But in reality, there are a lot of challenges that come with recording holiday music, whether it be trying to cover a song that\u2019s been covered a million times already or making a holiday song completely from scratch and trying to get into that niche. How do you approach recording a Christmas album?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>First time around, we were pretty traditional. I mean, I guess whoever\u2019s voice it is, that\u2019s your voice, so that is you. And I think that, much like when musicians do standards or show tunes or anything, the song is the song, and it is what it is. How do you interpret it where there\u2019s a point of difference, but you haven\u2019t turned the rudder so far that it\u2019s unrecognizable?<\/p>\n<p>But this time with doing these new songs, it didn\u2019t feel like a pressure. We started in March [like], \u201cHey, if we run out of steam or it doesn\u2019t have legs, we haven\u2019t really committed to it.\u201d <\/p>\n<p><strong>When you\u2019re writing new Christmas songs, are you concerned with trying to be among the best of the best Christmas songs? Or is this just for the true Kylie heads?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Oh, both. That\u2019s a high bar, the best of the best. But I\u2019ll find a midway ground and say I wanted to do the best <em>Kylie Christmas<\/em> songs that I could. How do you get yourself in the Christmas spirit?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Easy. I grew up with Australian Christmases. Explaining them to people who have never had a hot Christmas is lots of fun. They&#8217;re just baffled. I say, \u201cIt\u2019s bikinis, board shorts, and barbecue.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Do you and your family have any holiday traditions?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I don\u2019t know that we have a tradition, but I suppose there are traditions that I don\u2019t think of. I just don\u2019t term them as that. But every year, there\u2019s the barbecue. There\u2019s no Christmas without the barbecue. Everyone\u2019s outside, and you can\u2019t have too many cooks near the barbecue. One person\u2019s doing it.<\/p>\n<p>Someone brings a Pavlova. Yes, we have crackers. Yes, you\u2019ve got to put the paper crown on your head. It doesn\u2019t matter how ridiculous you feel. That\u2019s just how it is. More recently, we would often have a Scrabble board out. We\u2019ve kind of segued to jigsaws now, like a big jigsaw puzzle. It took four years to finish the last one. So we\u2019re starting this Christmas with a box-fresh jigsaw puzzle that will live on a table, and whoever passes by adds a piece, spends some time on it. I think that will become a tradition going forward.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Is there a song among the new four songs that is particularly special or sentimental to you?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Oh, that\u2019s really hard to ask me. They\u2019re so different. I can\u2019t choose one. \u201cXmas\u201d was an idea from when we wrapped the first Christmas album. So I feel very emotionally attached to that because it\u2019s been a long time and turned out to be a bop.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis Time Of Year\u201d is obviously very sentimental. I really wanted to have the balance of it feeling emotional, but to the right degree not to have you lose it. Because I just have it like, this is emotional, but I\u2019m hugging you at the same time.<\/p>\n<p>I haven\u2019t heard a song like [\u201cOffice Party\u201d] before. We just were cracking up in the studio. And the fact that we got to keep the photocopier sound effect at the end, we were like, \u201cSomeone\u2019s missed the email because, surely, how did we get away with this?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And then \u201cHot in December\u201d is an absolute bop, and that came about through my friendship with Sarah Hudson, who\u2019s an amazing writer who I\u2019ve worked with. She sent that to me a few years ago when I didn\u2019t need a Christmas song, but it\u2019s kind of been just waiting in the wings for a number of years. So that\u2019s got its own little history as well. So I literally can\u2019t choose one.<\/p>\n<p><strong>With the end of the year coming up, is there anything you\u2019re manifesting for 2026? Anything you\u2019re looking forward to?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Oh, 100%. It\u2019s been an absolutely gigantic year. I am so grateful, so thankful, and so amazed by&#8230; Well, I could group the past three years together, really, since <em>Tension<\/em>,<em> Tension II<\/em>, the Tension Tour, putting it all in a bow with a <em>Fully Wrapped<\/em> album.
