A Bridgerton<\/a> star who once said the Royal Family<\/a> on the balcony of Buckingham Palace<\/a> was ‘terribly white’ has collected an MBE from Prince William<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Adjoa Andoh<\/a>\u00a0previously sparked controversy after she referred to the Buckingham Palace balcony during King Charles<\/a> III’s coronation as ‘terribly white’ during live coverage on ITV<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The star, whose father was of Ghanaian origin and who plays Lady Danbury in the Netflix<\/a> series, was commentating for the network alongside Myleene Klass<\/a> and hosts Tom Bradby<\/a> and Julie Etchingham.<\/p>\n

The 62-year-old said of the event: ‘We have gone from the rich diversity of the [Westminster] Abbey to a terribly white balcony.<\/p>\n

‘I am very struck by that.<\/p>\n

‘I am also looking at those younger generations and thinking: ‘What are the nuances that they will inhabit when they grow?’<\/p>\n

She later described the coronation as ‘marvellous’ and said she ‘didn’t mean to upset anyone’.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Despite the backlash caused by the clip, Andoh today appeared to have shaken off any hard feelings as she accepted her MBE from heir to the throne Prince William.<\/p>\n

Clad in a white dress and black heels, she chatted and laughed with the Prince Of Wales, shaking hands with him before her medal was pinned to her chest.<\/p>\n

She was given the award for her services to drama.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Andoh has had a successful acting career, playing Dr Isaacs in the psychological thriller Fractured, as well as DI Nina Rosen in BBC’s Silent Witness.<\/p>\n

She made her Hollywood debut in 2009 in Clint Eastwood’s hit-film Invictus alongside Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon.<\/p>\n

Ten years later, she co-directed, and played Richard II at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, in the UK’s first all women-of-colour production.<\/p>\n

And more recently she has graced the screens as a leading role in Netflix’s Bridgerton series, a period drama which has been a runaway hit for the platform.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It was this fame which propelled her to new audiences in the last few years, culminating in her being called on to comment on the King’s coronation in May 2023.\u00a0<\/p>\n

After facing an online backlash, Andoh told\u00a0BBC Radio 4: ‘I think I upset a few people yesterday.<\/p>\n

‘I was talking about the day and how marvellous it was and then looking at the balcony at the end and suddenly going: “Oh it’s so white!” because the day had been so mixed and I didn’t mean to upset anybody.’<\/p>\n

Other stars to receive honours at Windsor Castle today included Sir Roger Daltrey, who was made a Knight Bachelor by the future King.<\/p>\n

Darts player Luke Humphries was also made an MBE, while\u00a0gold medal-winning paralympic swimmer Monica Vaughan was awarded an OBE.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
