OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (KCTV) – T-Mobile USA said Wednesday it would relocate more than 3,500 employees from the Aspiria campus at 119th and Nall Avenue in south Overland Park if the Kansas City Royals decide to build a new ballpark on the site.<\/p>\n

The former Sprint campus is now owned by an affiliate of the Royals. T-Mobile, which was once headquartered at the location, still maintains a presence there and says it plans to continue growing in the region despite moving its corporate headquarters to Seattle.<\/p>\n

The company\u2019s lease at the site runs through mid-2029. \u201cWe\u2019ll explore new locations, preferably within the city and state, if the Royals proceed, while continuing to work with the city and community leaders on a solution,\u201d a T-Mobile spokesperson told KCTV.<\/p>\n

News of the possibility stirred strong reactions this week at a meeting in Leawood<\/a>, where hundreds of residents raised concerns about traffic and congestion in an already busy area.<\/p>\n

More than 250 people attended the meeting to voice concerns about a potential stadium at 119th Street and Nall Avenue.<\/span>(KCTV5)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s so close and so big, and it\u2019ll be so noisy,\u201d said Mark Kelly, who lives less than a mile from the proposed location.<\/p>\n

Overland Park\u2019s mayor, Curt Skoog, however, isn\u2019t deterred.<\/p>\n

\u201cA Major League Baseball stadium in Overland Park is an exciting possibility. We must approach any project with the same standard we apply to everything we do at the City: It has to be good for Overland Park.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Royals said they have not committed to a single site and continue to weigh options that also include North Kansas City and downtown Kansas City\u2019s Crown Center.<\/p>\n
