General sales begin 10 a.m. Friday. Both shows are all-ages.<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>The performances mark Cake\u2019s first Sacramento appearance since Sept. 11, 2019, when they played the Golden 1 Center during a co-headlining tour with Ben Folds. That concert ended a near-decade hiatus from hometown shows.<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Formed in 1991, Cake rose to prominence in the 1990s as a response to grunge with its ironic sensibilities and insistent groove fueling signature hits <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cakemusic.com\/music\">\u201cThe Distance,\u201d<\/a> (1996) and <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cakemusic.com\/music\">\u201cShort Skirt, Long Jacket\u201d<\/a> (2001).<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Their last full-length studio album, \u201cShowroom of Compassion,\u201d was independently released in 2011 and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. The album was hailed by The New Yorker for its \u201cdeadpan brilliance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>In recent years, Cake has previewed new music, including the unreleased track \u201cBillionaire in Space,\u201d performed during a 2024 appearance on <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tpr.org\/arts-culture\/2024-10-22\/new-slice-of-cake-a-first-look-at-billionaire-in-space\">Texas Public Radio\u2019s \u201cLive From the Freight Elevator<\/a>.\u201d Frontman John McCrea described the work as a satirical critique of space tourism.
