Nickelodeon voice actor Jim Ward<\/strong> has died<\/a>. He was 66.<\/p>\n

Ward died on Wednesday, December 10, following complications from advanced Alzheimer\u2019s disease, the actor\u2019s wife, Janice Ward<\/strong>, told TMZ<\/a> on Thursday, December 11.<\/p>\n

Jim voiced many characters on popular animated shows, including The Fairly OddParents, Ratchet & Clank, Resident Evil 4, Spider-Man vs. The Kingpin <\/i>and more. (Jim notably portrayed Doug Dimmadome and Chet Ubetcha on Fairly OddParents, <\/i>as well as Qwark on Ratchet & Clank.<\/i>)<\/p>\n

Jim also cohosted Stephanie Miller<\/strong>\u2019s eponymous radio show.<\/p>\n

She continued, \u201cOur good friend, Jim Ward, passed away yesterday. We\u2019re going to spend the morning remembering his brilliance.\u201d<\/p>\n

Several of Miller\u2019s social media followers expressed their condolences<\/a> in the comments section.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m so sorry for your loss,\u201d an X user replied. \u201cMr. Ward was an important part of my childhood as the voice of Captain Qwark. I wish the family the very best.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jim, who retired in 2021 amid his battle with Alzheimer\u2019s, had previously been candid about getting his big break.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat first turned me on to that whole thing was, well, I got a tape recorder for my 13th birthday,\u201d Jim said in a 2016 interview<\/a>. \u201cThat was right when Copycats <\/i>came out and all the impressionists in that. [I was like], \u2018Hey, I can do that.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Out of his lengthy list of credits, Jim particularly enjoyed working on 1998\u2019s Secret Files of the Spy Dogs.<\/i><\/p>\n

\u201cWe were all playing dogs, and I was sitting between a bat and a monkey,\u201d he recalled. I was literally between Micky Dolen<\/strong> and Adam West<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n

While appearing on James Arnold Taylor<\/strong>\u2019s podcast, fellow voice star Larry Morgan<\/strong> called Jim\u2019s work an \u201cart form\u201d in itself.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s beautiful to watch Jim Ward in the studio doing Captain Qwark. It\u2019s a dance [and] he does these wonderful things,\u201d Morgan said. \u201cWe can all do our \u2018Jim doing\u2019 [voice] but it\u2019s not Jim.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jim, meanwhile, explained that voice acting is a blend of audio and physical acting.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have to, sort of, take on the physicality of the character,\u201d he said at the time.<\/p>\n

In the hours since his death, many of Jim\u2019s fans have shared emotional tributes via social media.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe voice of some of the most quotable characters in Fairly Oddparents<\/i> is gone. RIP Jim Ward,\u201d one fan wrote via X, as another added, \u201cAnother great legend of 90kids.\u201d<\/p>\n

A third replied, \u201cI grew up with Jim Ward on my TV screen playing one of the greatest video games ever, Ratchet & Clank<\/i>. Rest in peace, Captain Qwark.\u201d<\/p>\n

Others noted that they\u2019d never forget Jim\u2019s contributions to animated programs they watched as children.<\/p>\n
