Princess Sofia of Sweden\u2019s links to Jeffrey Epstein have led to
\na rare statement from the royal court in Stockholm<\/p>\n
Reports surfaced earlier this week that the princess, 41, had
\nmet Jeffrey Epstein in the early years of her career as a glamour
\nmodel and actress.<\/p>\n
Emails showed that a friend of Sofia\u2019s, Barbro Ehnbom, had
\ncontacted Epstein in 2005 to set up an introduction between him and
\nSofia who had just arrived in New York.<\/p>\n
Ehnbom, who attended Sofia\u2019s 2015 wedding to Prince Carl Philip,
\ndescribed the now princess as \u201dan aspiring actress who just arrived
\nin New York. She\u2019s the girl I told you about before I left, who I
\nthought you might like to meet\u2026.\u2019<\/p>\n
In response to Dagens Nyheter, the Swedish royals said that
\nSofia had \u201dbeen introduced to the person in question on a few
\noccasions around 2005\u2026.the princess has not had any contact with
\nthe person in question for 20 years\u201d.<\/p>\n
Jeffrey Epstein was first convicted of sex offences in 2008,
\nthree years after meeting Sofia. He was later arrested again and
\nwas found dead in his prison cell in 2019.<\/p>\n
It was also reported that Epstein had offered to send Sofia a
\nticket to his private island which later became notorious after
\nnumerous allegations from women that they had been trafficked
\nthere. The Swedish royal court confirmed that the princess had
\nrefused the offer to go to Little St. James in the US Virgin
\nIslands.<\/p>\n
Just days before the revelation, Sweden\u2019s royals had caused
\nsurprise when it was revealed that Sofia wouldn\u2019t be attending the
\nNobel Prize ceremony this year. She has been a regular at the event
\nsince her engagement to Prince Carl Philip in 2014. The court said
\nshe had decided, instead, to stay at home to look after her fourth
\nchild, Princess Ines, who is now 10 months old.<\/p>\n
King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia led the royals at the prize
\nceremony and at the banquet that followed. Crown Princess Victoria
\nand her husband, Prince Daniel, were in attendance. Prince Carl
\nPhilip walked in with his younger sister, Princess Madeleine, and
\nher husband, Christopher O\u2019Neill.<\/p>\n
The news comes just weeks after King Charles stripped his
\nyounger brother, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, of his titles. The
\nformer prince had a long standing association with Jeffrey Epstein.
\nHe was also accused by Virginia Giuffre of having sex with her when
\nshe was just 17 \u2013 an allegation he denies.<\/p>\n
King Charles removed Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor\u2019s HRH and Prince
\nand asked for his titles of Duke of York, Earl of Inverness and
\nBaron Killyleagh to be struck from the Roll of Peerage.<\/p>\n
