Ethan Hawke writes all of his lines by hand.\n<\/p>\n
The 55-year-old film star is always meticulous in his preparation for a role, with Ethan explaining that it helps him to be “extremely critical of the writer, in a positive way”.\n<\/p>\n
The Hollywood star told Variety: “I hand-write everything like it\u2019s my journal.\n<\/p>\n
“I\u2019m not memorising from a typewritten page; I don\u2019t want irrelevant stage directions to be part of it. I try to write it from memory, and then I look and see what I got wrong.\n<\/p>\n
“It also helps me be extremely critical of the writer, in a positive way. ‘It doesn\u2019t seem like I would use that word four times. I think this is a better word.’ Then I record it, and I listen, and I see what I got wrong.\n<\/p>\n
“Take Billie Eilish\u2019s Birds of a Feather. I know all the lyrics to that song. I don\u2019t know how I know all the lyrics to that song. I absorbed it at coffee shops and on the car radio, and it\u2019s in me now.”\n<\/p>\n
Ethan is convinced that his approach makes a lot of logical sense.\n<\/p>\n
The movie star said: “If you have a really big speech \u2014 Jon Voight taught me this \u2014 you unlace your shoe. And you have to do the speech lacing your shoe. If I was talking, lacing my shoe, it would be no problem. If I\u2019m trying to remember, then it\u2019s difficult to do.”\n<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Ethan previously claimed that “greed” runs the movie business.\n<\/p>\n
The actor acknowledges that the movie industry is “designed to make money” – but Ethan admires actors and actresses who are willing to take financial risks.\n<\/p>\n
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Ethan explained: “Greed runs our universe.\n<\/p>\n
“If you say you just want to make money, everybody understands what you are going for, and they are fine with it. \u2018Great, yeah, good. Oh, yeah, he sold ten billion Big Macs. Good for him.\u2019 No, you just poisoned the whole world.”<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
