I like that his songs are [straightforward] and complicated at the same time.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n In addition to being an admirer of Wonder, Ho said he chose this particular song because it gave him creative liberty and nostalgia.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI love the chord progression and melody on it,\u201d Ho said. \u201cThe lyrics are simple, but they carry a lot of meaning. Also, there\u2019s a lot of room to play around and put your own flair to it. My dad always played it whenever we were in the car together.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Ho said the recording process was not completed all at once, and it was broken into sections and completed in parts.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI first worked with my voice teacher to create a rough chart for how I wanted to sing my version,\u201d Ho said. \u201cThen, I spent two days in the studio workshopping vocals and instrumentals. It was cool to see everything come together.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Exploring the song by incorporating his own musical details and elements, Ho said he deviated from the original sound for his cover.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI liked experimenting with adding little melismas and embellishments to the normal melody of the song to make it more musically unique,\u201d Ho said. \u201cWe even brought in live musicians to [play some of them].\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Ho said that while he struggled with some portions of the recording process, he was satisfied with the outcome.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cIn the studio, you get as many takes as you want for a line or part of the song,\u201d Ho said. \u201cWhile that\u2019s a good thing, it was also draining to sing the same phrases repeatedly to get the best take.
