The Madison Mallards season is over, but that doesn\u2019t mean the Duck Pond is closed for the year. The Mallards and Lola\u2019s Hi\/Lo Lounge are hosting this celebration of local food and drink with no fewer than a dozen restaurants selling their best dishes set to a soundtrack from local, regional and national music acts \u2014 including roots musician Pokey LaFarge, The People Brothers Band, Mama Digdown\u2019s Brass Band, Spectaculous, Darren Sterud’s New Orleans Tribute, and DJ Phil Money. $2 per ticket will be donated to DAIS (Domestic Abuse Intervention Services) and the Dane County Food Collective.<\/p>\n
media release:\u00a0The Madison Mallards and Lola\u2019s Hi\/Lo Lounge have announced a new music and food festival to take place on Saturday, September 27 at the Warner Park Duck Pond, the True North Music + Food Festival.<\/p>\n
Participating restaurants include Heritage Tavern, Ahan, Seven Acre Dairy, Cinn City Smash, Banzo, Salvatore\u2019s, Lola\u2019s, Beef Butter BBQ, Cadre, It\u2019s Good For You Pizza, Jalisco, and Ancora.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Live music will begin at 4:00 with Darren Sterud\u2019s New Orleans Tribute, followed by Spectaculous at 5:15 pm, Mama Digdown’s Brass Band at 6:30 pm, People Brothers Band at 7:50 pm, and\u00a0national touring artist Pokey LaFarge headlining the event at 9:20 pm.\u00a0DJ Phil Money will spin between the bands.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re celebrating our 25th year on the Northside and given all of the new activity on this side of town it seemed like the perfect time to give this side of town something new to cheer about.\u201d said Mallards President Vern Stenman.<\/p>\n
The festival will feature an impressive roster of Madison restaurants, and a slew of great bands. In collaboration with the Mallards, the food has been curated by Lola\u2019s co-owner Evan Dannells with music programmed by his Lola\u2019s partner Matt Gerding.<\/p>\n
\u201cSince opening Lola\u2019s we\u2019ve fallen in love with the Northside and see so much great food and music happening all over the city\u201d said Gerding. \u201cThe food and music communities in this city are so incredible and we just felt like throwing a great party to celebrate that on our side of town.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s no better place than a baseball field to capture the timeless and authentic intersection of homegrown music, food and community\u201d says Gerding. \u201cOur hope is to turn this into an annual tradition and we\u2019re thrilled with how it\u2019s all coming together in year one.\u201d<\/p>\n
Tickets are $15 ($85 VIP) and go on-sale Friday, June 6,\u00a0at 10am at TrueNorthFest.com.<\/p>\n
Our gates will open at 3pm with music beginning at 4pm. All restaurant vendors will be open starting at 3pm!<\/p>\n
