The Queen called on the services of the \u2018state sleigh\u2019 to start
\nthe royal Christmas celebrations.<\/p>\n

Queen Camilla had the historic sleigh designed by Prince Albert
\nfor Queen Victoria brought to Clarence House as a special treat for
\nthe children she had invited in to decorate the Christmas tree.<\/p>\n

For 20 years, Queen Camilla has welcomed children with life
\nchanging illnesses to her London home in the run up to Christmas to
\nhelp deck the branches of the royal tree.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s become one of the best loved royal traditions and was given
\nan extra regal touch this year with the arrival of Queen Victoria\u2019s
\nsleigh.<\/p>\n

Buckingham Palace called it the \u2018State Sleigh\u2019 and The Queen sat
\non its red velvet bench to welcome each of the ten children invited
\nalong. They are all supported by Helen & Douglas House and Roald
\nDahl\u2019s Marvellous Children\u2019s Charity.<\/p>\n

The guests enjoyed a pretend sleigh ride with The Queen and
\nSanta as part of a magical afternoon.<\/p>\n

Inside Clarence House, they helped put the decorations on the
\ntree. The top branches were looked after by The Queen\u2019s new
\nequerry<\/a>,
\nMajor Rob Treasure, who asked the children to choose the trinkets
\nfor the highest branches before looping the baubles on to his sword
\nand transferring them on to the pines with one swift move.<\/p>\n

Queen Camilla loves her tree decorating afternoon and told her
\nguests that for her, this is the moment that \u2018Christmas has
\nstarted\u2019.<\/p>\n

Later, she served up lunch for the children, offering sausages
\nand mash shaped as smiley faces and bringing round the gravy
\nherself. There were also sweet treats and biscuits to top up energy
\nlevels after a bus time decorating the tree.<\/p>\n

As if there hadn\u2019t been enough magical moments already, reindeer
\nwere outside by the \u2018State Sleigh\u2019 to bring another Christmassy
\ntouch.<\/p>\n

Now The Queen\u2019s Christmas season has begun, there\u2019s a busy few
\nweeks ahead before the Royal Family gathers in Sandringham for
\ntheir festive celebrations.<\/p>\n

The King is set to talk publicly about his cancer treatment and
\nrecovery as he takes part in a special evening of broadcasting on
\nChannel 4 in support of Stand Up For Cancer.<\/p>\n

On the same day, members of the Royal Family will gather at St.
\nJames\u2019 Palace for the christening of Princess Beatrice\u2019s second
\ndaughter, Athena Mapelli Mozzi.<\/p>\n

Royal engagements continue in the days before Christmas while
\nThe King is also recording his festive message which will be
\nbroadcast on Christmas Day.<\/p>\n
