Princess Beatrice has put her own spin on royal tradition by
\nholding the celebration after the christening of her second
\ndaughter in a pub.<\/p>\n
The princess and her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, were seen
\narriving at a central London pub after the baptism of baby
\nAthena.<\/p>\n
With them were Athena\u2019s godmother, Princess Nina of Greece.<\/p>\n
The royal guests were entertained to a pub lunch to mark the
\nchristening of 10 month old Athena, who is 11th in line to the
\nthrone.<\/p>\n
The christening took place in the Chapel Royal of St. James\u2019
\nPalace, a favourite for royal celebrations.<\/p>\n
The chapel is where Queen Victoria married Prince Albert in
\n1840. Princess Beatrice and Edoardo originally planned to wed there
\nbut had to change their plans because of the pandemic and ended up
\nsaying \u2018I do\u2019 in a simple ceremony in Windsor.<\/p>\n
The Chapel Royal was also chosen by the Prince and Princess of
\nWales for the christening of their sons. Prince George was baptised
\nthere in October 2013 while Prince Louis was christened there in
\n2018. Princess Charlotte\u2019s christening took place at St. Mary
\nMagdalene church at Sandringham in 2015.<\/p>\n
Princess Beatrice was seen leading her guests into the pub after
\nthe ceremony. She wore a deep red dress and navy coat while
\nPrincess Nina was in all white.<\/p>\n
The christening also marked the first time that Andrew
\nMountbatten-Windsor had been seen inside a palace since The King
\nstripped him of his royal titles a few weeks ago.<\/p>\n
Along with his former wife, Sarah Ferguson, he attended the
\nbaptism of their fourth grandchild. The two arrived separately for
\nthe ceremony with Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor seen arriving at St.
\nJames on the morning of the ceremony.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s expected that other, more long standing royal traditions
\nwere observed at the service. Athena is believed to have worn the
\nreplica of the Honiton lace christening gown which has been used by
\nthe Royal Family since 2007 and which replaced the original dress
\nwhich was commissioned by Queen Victoria in 1840 following the
\nbirth of her first child, Princess Victoria.<\/p>\n
Royal babies are usually christened with water from the River
\nJordan.<\/p>\n
King Charles and Queen Camilla aren\u2019t thought to have
\nattended.<\/p>\n
The King will speak publicly later of his cancer recovery in a
\nspecial message for Stand Up for Cancer\u2019s evening of programmes on
\nChannel 4.<\/p>\n
