\n When Nick Reiner<\/a> was photographed alongside his family at the Los Angeles <\/strong>premiere of his father\u2019s comedy musical, \u201cSpinal Tap II,\u201d in September, he wasn\u2019t smiling.\n <\/p>\n

\n Instead, the son of legendary Hollywood director Rob Reiner<\/a> and producer Michele Singer Reiner stood impassively for the family portrait alongside his siblings.\n <\/p>\n

\n Three months later, Nick Reiner, 32, has been arrested and jailed on suspicion of murder after his parents were found dead inside their home in the Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles Sunday. He\u2019s being held on a $4 million bond.\n <\/p>\n

\n Reiner has previously been open about his struggles with drug addiction, including homelessness and stints in rehab. He co-wrote the 2015 film \u201cBeing Charlie,\u201d a movie inspired by those experiences and directed by his father.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cThat made me who I am now, having to deal with that stuff,\u201d he told People magazine<\/a> in 2016.\n <\/p>\n

\n During the promotional tour for his film, \u201cBeing Charlie,\u201d Nick Reiner often appeared alongside his father to discuss how he used his own experiences to inform the film.\n <\/p>\n

\n When they appeared in AOL\u2019s speaker series \u201cBuild,\u201d<\/a> Nick Reiner shared there were \u201ca lot of dark years\u201d as he fought through addiction.\n <\/p>\n

\n He said he learned to use comedy as a way of coping with some of his experiences in rehab, and later, he channeled it into the film.\n <\/p>\n

\n Rehab is \u201ctragic and all but the people that are there are not going to want you to throw them a pity party. They\u2019re going to want you to laugh at the situation and make light of it,\u201d he said.\n <\/p>\n

\n During the same interview, Rob Reiner called the project \u201cthe most personal thing I\u2019ve ever done\u201d and talked about working with his son.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cYou don\u2019t set out to have a cathartic experience or be therapeutic in some way,\u201d the elder Reiner said. \u201cThe fact that we were dealing with things that Nick had gone through and how I had related to it and how his mother had related to it\u2026it forced me to have to see more clearly and understand more deeply what Nick had gone through and I think it forced him to see things that I had experienced during this process.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n The Los Angeles Police Department has declined to share additional details about the investigation into Reiner and Singer Reiner\u2019s death. The Los Angeles County District Attorney\u2019s Office has not filed any criminal charges in connection with the case.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cWe owe it to their memory to pursue justice and accountability for the lives that were tragically taken,\u201d the district attorney\u2019s office<\/a> said in a statement.\n <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
