Comedian Eric Idle<\/strong> revealed he spoke to Rob Reiner<\/strong> for \u201cover an hour\u201d the night of the actor\u2019s death.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cRob Reiner was a lovely man,\u201d Idle, 82, wrote via X<\/a> on Sunday, December 15. \u201cI spoke to him last night for over an hour.\u201d<\/p>\n

Idle recalled how he \u201calways enjoyed\u201d Reiner\u2019s company. \u201cI met him at his Dad\u2019s in 1975. He was telling me about [filming] at Stonehenge and his thoughts for the future,\u201d Idle wrote. \u201cThis is so awful. I shall miss him. A clever, talented and very thoughtful man.So awful.\u201d<\/p>\n

News broke late Sunday night that Rob and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner<\/strong>, died inside their hom<\/a>e in Los Angeles. Rob was 78 and Michele was 68.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tHollywood is mourning the loss of acclaimed director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner. The couple were found dead inside their home in Brentwood, Los Angeles, on Sunday, December 14, with TMZ reporting that Rob, 78, and Michele \u201csuffered lacerations consistent with a knife.\u201d Rob and Michele\u2019s family broke their silence late Sunday [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cIt is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner,\u201d a spokesperson for the family said in a statement to Variety. \u201cWe are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a press conference, Deputy Chief Alan S. Hamilton<\/strong> confirmed that the LAPD<\/a> \u201cis currently conducting an ongoing homicide investigation into the two deaths at Rob Reiner\u2019s Brentwood home.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hamilton added that the LAPD \u201chas not identified a suspect at this time\u201d and is not pursuing any persons of interest after the couple were found dead \u201cfrom apparent stab wounds.\u201d<\/p>\n

Deadline<\/em> reported that Hamilton \u201cavoided classifying the investigation as a murder one.\u201d Instead, he used the term \u201cdeath investigation\u201d and noted the Robbery-Homicide Division was handling the case.<\/p>\n

As the investigation continues, celebrities have continued to honor Rob and Michele<\/a>. Ben Stiller<\/strong> called the tragic incident a \u201chuge loss,\u201d adding via X, \u201cRob Reiner was one of my favorite directors. He made some of the most formative movies for my generation.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued: \u201cHe came out [from] behind a huge comedic shadow of the great Carl Reiner and being a TV actor to being a great director who made an incredible run of movies. Spinal Tap is one of the best comedies ever made \u2014 and the list goes on. He was a kind caring person who was really, really funny. I didn\u2019t know him well but was always a fan and I feel a real sadness for those who did, and his family.\u201d<\/p>\n

The impact he made on American culture simply can\u2019t be overstated,\u201d the SAG-AFTRA president, 54, said in a statement issued by the union. \u201cTributes will pour in and the impossibly long list of genre defining films and indelible performances will play in our minds and hearts. Rob Reiner was a member of our union for nearly 60 years.\u201d<\/p>\n
