\nTelegraph,<\/a> approximately 400 drivers employed by Certas Energy,
\na primary supplier to the estate, are expected to walk out in a
\ndispute over pay. The industrial action is scheduled to last 15
\ndays, spanning from 22 December to 5 January. Unite, the union
\nrepresenting the drivers, warned that the strike could leave King
\nCharles and Queen Camilla confronting a \u201ccold Christmas.\u201d<\/p>\nThe disruption is not limited to the royal household. The union
\nnoted that schools, military facilities, petrol stations, and Royal
\nMail refuelling points may also be affected.<\/p>\n
Sharon Graham, general secretary of Unite, said: \u201cCertas drivers
\ndo not expect to be treated like royalty, but they do expect a fair
\npay increase from their employer.\u201d<\/p>\n
The union has criticised the company\u2019s proposed 2 per cent pay
\nrise, calling it insufficient to meet members\u2019 expectations.<\/p>\n
Certas Energy, however, emphasised that it has put forward an
\nabove-inflation pay offer and remains in negotiations with the
\nunion to avert a strike. A spokesperson said: \u201cWe have measures in
\nplace to mitigate any disruption to our customers, including
\nSandringham, should industrial action proceed.\u201d<\/p>\n
The King and Queen are expected to arrive at Sandringham in the
\nnext few days, joining joining close family members for festive
\nperiod. The Prince and Princess of Wales and their three children
\nare also understood to be spending Christmas at Anmer Hall \u2013
\nlocated on the estate.<\/p>\n
Palace sources suggested that the strike, while potentially
\ninconvenient, would not necessarily cause a crisis. The Sandringham
\nestate benefits from backup heating systems, including a biomass
\nboiler installed by the late Prince Philip, powered by woodchips
\nharvested from estate grounds.<\/p>\n
