Discovery&#8217;s TV and film studios and streaming division for $72 billion US. But there have been exceptions, including qualifying runs for its awards contenders, including this year&#8217;s <em>Frankenstein<\/em>, limited theatre screenings of a <em>KPop Demon Hunters<\/em> sing-a-long and its coming <em>Stranger Things<\/em> series finale.<\/p>\n<p>But O\u2019Leary says those limited theatrical runs don\u2019t demonstrate that the company cares about movie theatres.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat Netflix has done historically is they&#8217;ll put a movie in for 10 days so that it qualifies for an award or something like that. That&#8217;s not a meaningful commitment to exhibition.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>What this means for consumers<\/h2>\n<p>The deal\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/netflix-warner-bros-deal-reaction-3acea5d81e630d20560299764bf4c37c\" target=\"_blank\">also sent shock waves<\/a>\u00a0through Washington, on both sides of the aisle.<\/p>\n<p>Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren, a longtime antitrust hawk, said in a statement that the proposed merger \u201clooks like an anti-monopoly nightmare.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A Netflix-Warner Bros. would create one massive media giant with control of close to half of the streaming market \u2014 threatening to force Americans into higher subscription prices and fewer choices over what and how they watch, while putting American workers at risk,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>Sen.
