Sweden\u2019s royals have put family first after a week of
\ncontroversy that flared up just as they were attending one of the
\nmost prestigious events in their calendar.<\/p>\n

The King of Sweden always presents most of the Nobel Prizes in a
\nglittering ceremony that sees the royal family out in full force
\nand in full royal regalia.<\/p>\n

However, this year\u2019s event took place just as email emerged
\nlinking one of the family to Jeffrey Epstein.<\/p>\n

Messages were published in Swedish papers ahead of the ceremony
\nmentioning Princess Sofia, wife of Prince Carl Philip and the only
\ndaughter in law of the King and Queen of Sweden.<\/p>\n

\nemails were sent by Barbro Ehnbom<\/a> twenty years ago when the
\nprincess, then an aspiring actress, arrived in New York. The
\nmessages offered to set up an introduction between Sofia and
\nEpstein.<\/p>\n

In response to Dagens Nyheter, the Swedish royals said that
\nSofia had \u201dbeen introduced to the person in question on a few
\noccasions around 2005\u2026.the princess has not had any contact with
\nthe person in question for 20 years\u201d.<\/p>\n

Jeffrey Epstein was first convicted of sex offences in 2008,
\nthree years after meeting Sofia. He was later arrested again and
\nwas found dead in his prison cell in 2019.<\/p>\n

Princess Sofia had announced just hours before the revelation
\nthat she wouldn\u2019t be attending the Nobel prize ceremony or
\nsubsequent royal banquets as she wanted to stay at home with her
\nfourth child, ten month old Princess Ines.<\/p>\n

Ines became the star of a royal Christmas tradition that saw the
\nyounger generation of the family out in full force after the
\ncontroversial Nobel week.<\/p>\n

Queen Silvia led all her grandchildren out to enjoy a special Christmas event<\/a> with
\nher. The students at the Swedish University of Agricultural
\nSciences in Ume\u00e5 have been presenting Sweden\u2019s royals with
\nChristmas trees since the 1960s and, over sixty years on, Silvia
\nbrought the next generation of royals along to accept the gifts and
\nget busy decorating.<\/p>\n

Her eldest grandchild, Princess Estelle, was on hand to help her
\nsupervise the
\nyounger members of the family<\/a>. Estelle, now 13 and second in
\nline to the throne, arrived carrying baby Ines in her arms.<\/p>\n

Queen Silvia took charge of the youngest of her grandchildren
\nwhile Estelle helped her brother, nine year old Prince Oscar, and
\nher cousins decorate the trees.<\/p>\n

Princess Sofia and Prince Carl Philip\u2019s eldest son, nine year
\nold Prince Alexander, had carried in a big basket of baubles. His
\nbrothers \u2013 Prince Gabriel, 8, and four year old Prince Julian \u2013
\nwere among the first to dive in and start decorating.<\/p>\n

Princess Leonore, 11, was also there. Her mum, Princess
\nMadeleine, is the youngest child of Queen Silvia and King Carl
\nGustaf, and has moved her family back to Sweden in recent times
\nafter a stint in the US where her husband, Christopher O\u2019Neill, was
\nworking.<\/p>\n

Leonore\u2019s brother, ten year old Prince Nicolas, joined their 7
\nyear old sister, Princess Adrienne, for some tree decorating.<\/p>\n

Queen Silvia is a devoted grandmother and is often seen with her
\ngrandchildren in the run up to Christmas. Her birthday is on
\nDecember 22 and the youngsters have featured in the past leading
\ncelebrations for their granny\u2019s big day.<\/p>\n
