Hollywood is in shock after the sudden death of director and actor Rob Reiner, who has been found dead in an apparent homicide<\/a> at his Los Angeles home with his wife, Michele Singer Reiner.<\/p>\n Reiner\u2019s peers paid tribute after reports began to emerge on Sunday afternoon that the bodies of a 78-year-old man and a 68-year-old woman had been found by authorities inside a home owned by Reiner in Brentwood, Los Angeles.<\/p>\n A spokesperson for the Reiner family later confirmed their deaths on Sunday evening, saying: \u201cWe are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.\u201d<\/p>\n Christopher Guest, who starred in This Is Spinal Tap and The Princess Bride, and his wife, Jamie Lee Curtis, said in a joint statement that they were \u201cnumb and sad and shocked about the violent, tragic deaths of our dear friends Rob and Michelle Singer Reiner and our ONLY focus and care right now is for their children and immediate families and we will offer all support possible to help them\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cThere will be plenty of time later to discuss the creative lives we shared and the great political and social impact they both had on the entertainment industry, early childhood development, the fight for gay marriage and their global care for a world in crisis,\u201d the couple wrote. \u201cWe have lost great friends. I spoke to him last night for over an hour. I always enjoyed his company. I met him at his Dad\u2019s in 1975. He was telling me about filming at Stonehenge and his thoughts for the future \u2026 I shall miss him. A clever, talented and very thoughtful man. So awful.\u201d<\/p>\n Kathy Bates, the actor who starred in Reiner\u2019s 1990 film Misery, said he had \u201cchanged the course\u201d of her life.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m horrified hearing this terrible news. Absolutely devastated. I loved Rob,\u201d she told NBC. \u201cHe was brilliant and kind, a man who made films of every genre to challenge himself as an artist. He also fought courageously for his political beliefs. He changed the course of my life.\u201d<\/p>\n She also praised Michele Reiner, describing her as a \u201cgifted photographer\u201d.<\/p>\n The director Paul Feig wrote on X: \u201cRob is one of my heroes. I had the honor of calling him a friend. I pray this isn\u2019t what it sounds like it is. I just saw [him] and Michele two nights ago.\u201d<\/p>\n Elijah Wood, who starred in Reiner\u2019s 1994 family film North, posted:<\/a> \u201cHorrified to hear of the passing of Rob Reiner and his wonderful wife Michelle. So much love to their kids and family.\u201d<\/p>\n James Woods, who starred in Reiner\u2019s 1996 film Ghosts of Mississippi, said they were \u201cgood friends\u201d. \u201cPolitical differences never stood in the way of our love and respect for each other,\u201d he said on X.<\/a><\/p>\n Sally Struthers, who starred with Reiner in the 1970s CBS sitcom All in the Family, told Deadline<\/a>: \u201cThere are no words. This is beyond devastating and my heart is with their family.\u201d<\/p>\n Ben Stiller called Reiner \u201ca kind caring person who was really really funny\u201d in a post on social media<\/a>. The actor said Reiner \u201cmade some of the most formative movies for my generation\u201d.<\/p>\n The actor Josh Gad wrote: \u201cHe was one of the greatest directors of our time. He was a friend. He was simply a beautiful person. Rob Reiner<\/a> and his wife Michelle were two of the most kind and caring souls you could ever imagine. He cared so much for those who had no voices. This loss is devastating. I cannot express how much this hurts.\u201d<\/p>\n Actor John Cusack, who starred in Reiner\u2019s 1985 film The Sure Thing, said on X<\/a>: \u201cWhat made Rob a great man – was not his prodigious talents as an actor director writer producer – it was his huge heart, his endless generosity and his decency and humanity that made him great. He had soul – and saw the soul in others. He loved justice. Gave me my break in the business and took care of me like a son. A mensch in every sense.\u201d<\/p>\n Virginia Madsen, who appeared in Ghosts of Mississippi said on Instagram<\/a>: \u201cthank you Rob for giving us so much joy to hold on to. Life and talent always turned up to 11,\u201d while The View cohost Whoopi Goldberg, who also was in Ghosts of Mississippi, praised him as \u201can outspoken activist and quite a guy, quite an amazing man\u201d.<\/p>\n
