Netflix and iHeartMedia announced Tuesday they have an exclusive video partnership deal to bring more than 15 original podcasts, including \u201cThe Breakfast Club<\/a>,\u201d true crime podcast \u201cMy Favorite Murder<\/a>\u201d and Chelsea Handler\u2019s \u201cDear Chelsea\u201d to the subscription streaming service. <\/p>\n

The multi-year deal, which launches in early 2026, includes new episodes from the podcasts and some library episodes. The video podcasts will first roll out on Netflix in the U.S. and later to other markets. Netflix declined to disclose the financial terms of the deal. <\/p>\n

The announcement comes as Netflix is adding more video podcasts to its lineup to diversify the content on its streaming service and better compete with YouTube<\/a>. Several of the iHeart podcasts involved in the deal, including \u201cMy Favorite Murder,\u201d have posted videos of their podcasts on Google\u2019s video platform prior to the deal\u2019s announcement. <\/p>\n

\u201cWith this partnership we are incredibly excited to offer our members such unmatched variety, and to deliver highly entertaining podcasts featuring some of the world\u2019s most dynamic personalities,\u201d said Lauren Smith, Netflix\u2019s vice president of content licensing and programming strategy in a statement.<\/p>\n

In October, Netflix announced next year it would stream 16 Spotify video podcasts<\/a>, including sports audio programs like \u201cThe Bill Simmons Podcast\u201d and \u201cThe Ringer Fantasy Football Show.\u201d <\/p>\n

Video podcasts have become more popular among audio listeners. Roughly 70% of podcast listeners prefer their shows with video, according to a Cumulus Media study<\/a>. Some of the programs also have huge followings \u2014 for example, \u201cMy Favorite Murder,\u201d with hosts Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark, has generated about 2 billion lifetime downloads according to iHeart and Netflix in a press release. <\/p>\n

Other video podcasts coming to Netflix include comedy podcast \u201cThis is Important,\u201d mental health podcast \u201cThe Psychology of your 20s\u201d and history podcast \u201cBehind the Bastards.\u201d <\/p>\n

iHeart will keep its audio-only rights and distribution as part of the deal, with its podcasts continuing to be on iHeartRadio and \u201ceverywhere podcasts are heard,\u201d the companies said. iHeart did not immediately return a request for comment on the financial terms of the Netflix deal. <\/p>\n
