During a White House Christmas reception over the weekend, Trump went on a lengthy tangent<\/a> about White House physician Dr. James Jones\u2019 recovery from a viper bite in the Peruvian jungle during a trip with former President Barack Obama<\/a>\u2019s daughters. Trump claimed, during his monologue, that 28,000 people die from snake bites in Peru each year.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cQuick fact check here,\u201d Colbert said. \u201cHe said 28,000 people die a year from snake bites in Peru.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cThat sounds over-exaggerated,\u201d the host added, before playing a clip of Trump pushing back at the event saying: \u201cThat\u2019s not over-exaggerated.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cYet it is,\u201d Colbert shot back. \u201cYes, it is and don\u2019t interrupt me. We have fact-checkers, and our fact-checkers fact-checked.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Colbert then delivered the numbers: \u201cThe actual number of people who died from snake bites in Peru from the years 2000 to 2015, a period of time when one would imagine this story took place, is 10 total \u2014 in 15 years<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

He paused, pretending to crunch the math with a calculator to see \u201chow far off\u201d Trump was before zinging: \u201cAnd the answer is \u2026 dementia.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
