\n\tFox Entertainment Studios<\/a> has landed the rights to turn two upcoming books into series.<\/p>\n \n\tThe studio is developing projects based on Pat Kelly\u2019s debut thriller Rifle Season<\/a><\/em> and Thomas Mullen\u2019s Darktown<\/a><\/em> with Jeffrey Levine<\/a>\u00a0and his production company\u00a0Bronson Canyon Pictures<\/a>.<\/p>\n \n\tIt comes after Levine, who was previously SVP, Scripted Development at American Gods producer Fremantle struck a first-look deal with the studio earlier this year.<\/p>\n \n\tRifle Season<\/em>, which is set to be published by\u00a0Simon & Schuster\u2019s Emily Bestler Books imprint\u00a0in January 2026, is the first installment of Kelly\u2019s\u00a0Mace Winters\u00a0series.<\/p>\n \n\tMason \u201cMace\u201d Winters, a legendary big-game hunting guide in Colorado. But after a tragic accident leaves him with an involuntary manslaughter conviction, his life spirals into ruin. When two mysterious clients lure him back into the mountains under the guise of a photography hunt on opening day of Colorado\u2019s rifle season, he soon realizes the trip\u2019s true purpose is far deadlier. Thrust into a lethal game of cat-and-mouse in the wilderness he knows better than anyone, Mace must summon the hunter he used to be to protect his family, outwit ruthless operatives, and reclaim his life, before the mountain doesn\u2019t let him walk away. Levine will exec produce the adaptation.<\/p>\n \n\tDarktown<\/em>, which was published by\u00a0Simon & Schuster in 2016, is a historical crime thriller set in Atlanta in 1948. It follows two of the city\u2019s first Black police officers \u2014 Lucius Boggs and Tommy Smith \u2014 who are assigned to patrol the historically Black neighborhood of \u201cDarktown\u201d under the most restrictive, segregated conditions. Despite being officially powerless and facing entrenched racism within the force, they witness a white ex-cop crash into a lamppost, allow the suspect to walk free, and then discover that the young Black woman in his car has been murdered. As Boggs and Smith dig deeper, they uncover a web of corruption, bigotry, and conspiracy stretching across the police department and the city\u2019s elite.<\/p>\n \n\tLevine will executive produce the\u00a0Darktown<\/em>\u00a0adaptation alongside\u00a0former HBO film chief Len Amato and his production company Crash & Salvage.<\/p>\n \n\tLevine launched Bronson Canyon Pictures earlier this year after leaving Fremantle in April. At the RTL-owned producer and distributor, he worked on series including American Gods,\u00a0Little Bird<\/em>, and the upcoming Amazon U.K. series\u00a0Kill Jackie<\/em>.
