TEXAS \u2014 Country music legend Willie Nelson hasn\u2019t fully passed the torch for iconic twangy tunes \u2014 not even within his immediate family.<\/p>\n
Nelson and his son, Lukas, will share the spotlight at the 2026 Grammy Awards. They are both nominated for Best Traditional Country Album, a new category introduced this year.<\/p>\n
The new category aims to honor both evolving, pop-edged country music and the timeless, \u201cever-resilient, blue-collar ethos\u201d of traditional country, a representative for the Grammy\u2019s wrote in a November\u00a0news release<\/a>. Now, instead of only Best Country Album up for grabs, artists will compete for both Best Traditional Country Album and Best Contemporary Country Album.<\/p>\n Lukas snatched the nomination with his debut solo album \u201cAmerican Romance,\u201d a 12-track work released in June. A RIFF Magazine country music critic said the work shows Lukas\u2019 comfortability \u201cforging his own lane\u201d<\/a> in traditional country music.<\/p>\n He\u2019s already taken home a Grammy for Best Compilation for Visual Media for his work on the film “A Star is Born”, which itself was nominated for eight Academy Awards<\/a> in 2018.<\/p>\n Nelson, who is 92 years old and a 12-time Grammy winner, paid tribute to fellow Texas-based artist\u00a0Rodney Crowell<\/a>\u00a0for his nominated piece, \u201cOh What A Beautiful World.\u201d The Grammy\u2019s release described his 12 tracks as \u201cvivid tunes (that) splash out like landscape paintings.\u201d<\/p>\n The younger Nelson shared his gratitude for the nomination in an\u00a0Instagram post<\/a>\u00a0on Dec. 8, specifically mentioning being on the same bill as his father.<\/p>\n \u201c(It) gives me such a great sense of cosmic purpose and I\u2019m in awe of the way God works,\u201d Lukas wrote in the post.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
