In January, New York\u2019s IFC Center will host a timely new retrospective, \u201cPanahi & Kiarostami: Two Masters,\u201d as IndieWire<\/a> announces exclusively. Running from January 2\u20138, 2026, the 18-film program will celebrate the interconnected work of acclaimed Iranian filmmakers Jafar Panahi<\/a> and Abbas Kiarostami<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The retrospective comes amid a surge for Panahi, following the release of his recent feature \u201cIt Was Just an Accident<\/a>,\u201d which has just been shortlisted for a Best International Feature Oscar. After decades of crafting subversively political films that have made him an enemy of the Iranian government, Panahi won this year\u2019s Palme d\u2019Or for his dark-comedy-laced thriller about a group of former detainees debating the fate of the man they believe to be their prison tormentor.
