Variety\u2018s \u201cActors on Actors\u201d series has been the go-to interview platform for celebrities \u2014 but which actor has \u201calways\u201d said no to the coveted opportunity?<\/p>\n

Editor in chief Ramin Setoodeh<\/strong> was asked who was still on their wishlist<\/a> during the Thursday, December 18, episode of the \u201cViall Files\u201d podcast,<\/a> saying, \u201cLeonardo [DiCaprio]<\/strong> had been on my dream list for a really long time. We\u2019re very, very lucky to have him this season. One actor who\u2019s always said no and she\u2019s never done it is Meryl Streep.\u201d<\/p>\n

Setoodeh recalled multiple actors asking to be paired up with Streep, 76, for their segment.<\/p>\n

\u201cEveryone\u2019s always wanting to pair with Meryl Streep,\u201d he revealed. \u201cMeryl hasn\u2019t made a movie in a few years now. She\u2019s been on TV, she\u2019s been on Hulu and she\u2019s been doing other projects. But I do hope the next time she has a big movie \u2014 and she\u2019s not on Only Murders in the Building \u2014 that we can have her on Actors on Actors.\u201d<\/p>\n

The season will kick off with a sit-down interview between Wicked: For Good\u2019s Ariana Grande and Jay Kelly\u2019s Adam Sandler. For the first time ever, the series will air on celebrity.land under a new partnership between the network and the [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

He continued: \u201cLiterally, I could pair her with anyone. And every single actor in the portfolio always wants to pair with Meryl.\u201d<\/p>\n

Streep has been booked and busy filming<\/a> high-profile projects such as The Devil Wears Prada 2 and Hulu\u2019s Only Murders in the Building. After joining the hit series in 2023, Streep portrayed Martin Short<\/strong>\u2018s love interest on Only Murders in the Building. Their public appearances off camera sparked speculation that they are dating.<\/p>\n

Short, 75, and Streep\u2019s characters, Oliver and Loretta, got married during season 4 of the series, which also stars Selena Gomez<\/strong> and Steve Martin<\/strong>. Ahead of season 5, which aired earlier this year, creator John Hoffman explained why Loretta left for a job overseas shortly after exchanging vows with Oliver.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are a lot of reasons [for that decision]. I\u2019ll cop to that for sure. But I think, ultimately, I delighted in it, and we said yes to it because it felt like a funny, believable thing now. If you\u2019re working in TV and film, again, it\u2019s a little bit of a tweaking joke to the industry that overseas is cheaper, or overseas makes sense, or overseas is fresher,\u201d Hoffman told The Hollywood Reporter in October 2024. \u201cThings are happening like that all the time around productions that are either just getting going or are making a move, or whatever they can do to hold on to things and keep the costs down. So a little bit of that wink was a part of that decision.\u201d<\/p>\n
