{"id":2204711,"date":"2025-12-18T22:22:08","date_gmt":"2025-12-18T22:22:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/?p=2204711"},"modified":"2025-12-18T22:22:08","modified_gmt":"2025-12-18T22:22:08","slug":"jewish-joy-entertainment-and-pickle-latkes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/jewish-joy-entertainment-and-pickle-latkes\/","title":{"rendered":"Jewish Joy, Entertainment and Pickle Latkes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe Monty Pickle Show\u201d is the first-ever series aimed at introducing kids to the Jewish experience.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A kosher dill with a lot of personality, Monty Pickle has a YouTube channel, where there are videos of him performing the new Hanukkah song \u201c8 is Great\u201d with Kosha Dillz, as well as cooking episodes: solo and with celebrity chef Duff Goldman.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cDuff taught me everything from rolling the matzo balls and popping them in the stew to adding a little bit of seasoning,\u201d Monty Pickle told the Journal. \u201cThat guy knows lots and lots about cooking, and he\u2019s a good pal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The goal of the show is to get kids and their parents laughing out loud together and celebrating being Jewish.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cMonty\u2019s amazing,\u201d executive producer and co-creator Halle Stanford, told the Journal.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A primetime and children\u2019s Emmy award-winner, Stanford, who produced content for the Jim Henson Company for more than 30 years, served as an EP on celebrated kid\u2019s programs such as \u201cFraggle Rock: Back to the Rock,\u201d \u201cThe Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance\u201d and \u201cHarriet the Spy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI was really thinking a lot about children \u2013 Jewish children and non-Jewish children \u2013 getting to know the Jewish experience,\u201d she said. \u201cWhat better way to introduce them to it all than through an amazing pickle puppet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stanford teamed up with former \u201cSesame Street\u201d EP and creative director Benjamin Lehmann and world-renowned puppeteer Victor Yerrid to create Monty. Then went out and recruited colleagues from the kid\u2019s content world, including Emmy-nominated children\u2019s TV showrunner and writer Elise Allen, Emmy Award-winning producer Jill Hotchkiss and Emmy Award-winning producer, Jewish educator and founder of Hebrew Helpers Todd Shotz, to bring him to life.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stanford grew up in a household of food lovers, but said her love of the Swedish Chef that really got her into cooking.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe Swedish Chef on \u201cThe Muppet Show\u201d made me laugh so hard; he was my first cooking show, [he was] before The Food Network,\u201d she said. \u201cFor me, there\u2019s always been this theme of puppets and food in my career and in my life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Like the Swedish Chef, Monty has tons of personality.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI think that kids not only love food, they love seeing how food is made,\u201d Monty said. \u201cI think kids and adults like a little peek behind the curtain.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With a sensitivity to pickle ethics, a wink and a laugh, Stanford and Monty shared a recipe for pickle latkes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThere are two main ingredients: pickles and latkes,\u201d Monty said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Well, maybe there is a little more to it. <em>That recipe is below.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Monty and Stanford are great fans of food, entertainment and education \u2026\u00a0 and one another.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cHalle is one of the most amazing and prolific producers in Hollywood, in family entertainment; Monty Pickle here \u2013 former cucumber, current Jewish pickle, and culinary visionary. Now, I know what you\u2019re thinking, \u201cMonty, <em>pickle<\/em> <em>latkes<\/em>? Has the brine finally gone to your head?\u201d To which I proudly reply: Absolutely not! But even if it had, it would only make me more delicious!\u00a0 I may be a pickle, but I know we make everything better! Especially when it comes to Hanukkah! So, crank up the frying pan (or the air-fryer), grab some sour cream, and prepare yourself for crunch-induced, dill-lightful, enlightenment!<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Makes ~12+ Latkes<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><u>Ingredients <\/u><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Latke Batter:<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">4 large russet potatoes, peeled<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1 yellow onion<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2153\u2013\u00bd cup minced dill pickles (add more for extra pickle punch)<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2 Tbsp pickle brine<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2 large eggs<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">4 tablespoons of matzo meal or \u00bc cup potato starch<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1 \u00bd tsp kosher salt (reduce to 1 tsp if pickles are very salty)<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00bd tsp black pepper<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00bd tsp garlic powder<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00bc tsp celery seed (optional but deliciously pickle-y)<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For Frying:<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vegetable oil (for pan-frying)<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cooking spray or a bit of oil (for air-frying)<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For Serving:<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sour cream or Greek yogurt<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fresh dill<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Extra chopped pickles or relish<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><u>Instructions<\/u><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Grate the potatoes and onion:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>\u2013 <\/strong>Option A: Box Grater (classic). Grate potatoes and onion on the large holes of a box grater.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 Option B: Food Processor (quick and easy). Chop potatoes and onion into chunks. Run through the shredding disc of a food processor.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Squeeze out the moisture \u2013 cheesecloth method:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 Transfer the shredded mixture to a large piece of cheesecloth or a clean kitchen towel.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 Gather the ends, twist tightly, and squeeze out as much liquid as possible.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 Let the liquid sit in the bowl for 2 minutes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 Pour off the liquid but scrape the white potato starch from the bottom back into your potatoes; it\u2019s a built-in binder.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Build the batter \u2013 pickles are added LAST:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To the bowl of dried potatoes, add eggs, matzo meal\/potato starch, pickle brine, salt, pepper, garlic powder and celery seed. Mix thoroughly; mix with your hands for best results. Now, gently fold in the star of the latkes \u2013 the minced dill pickles \u2013 so they stay bright, crunchy and full of zing.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Choose your cooking method<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 Option A. Traditional Pan-Frying (classic and crispiest).<\/p>\n<ol style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li>Heat \u00bc inch of oil in a skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering.<\/li>\n<li>Scoop spoonfuls of batter into the pan, flattening gently (a pickle jar is a great tool for this!)<\/li>\n<li>Fry 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown and crisp.<\/li>\n<li>Drain on a rack or paper towels.<\/li>\n<li>Sprinkle with a pinch of salt while hot.<strong style=\"color: #222222; font-size: 20px;\">\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Option B.
