(WIBW) &#8211; Kansas Senate President Ty Masterson says he believes the Kansas City Royals are coming to Kansas despite appearances that the decision will not be made, as previously stated, by the end of this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Senator Masterson\u2019s office Thursday stated that his belief the Royals are committed to crossing the border meets the obligation set by the Legislative Coordinating Council, the body that <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wibw.com\/2025\/07\/07\/kansas-lawmakers-approves-an-extension-move-chiefs-royals-across-state-lines\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"\" title=\"https:\/\/www.wibw.com\/2025\/07\/07\/kansas-lawmakers-approves-an-extension-move-chiefs-royals-across-state-lines\/\">set a December 31 deadline<\/a> for either KC team to accept the state\u2019s tax incentives for stadium construction. Sen. Masterson says the Royals\u2019 proposal will not be finalized during the upcoming legislative session, and saved any further comment for after the LCC meeting scheduled next week.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"pullquote | article-pullquote\">\n<blockquote class=\"blockquote | fst-italic bg-light p-4 border-start\">\n<p class=\"mb-2\">\u201cSenate President Masterson believes the Kansas City Royals are fully committed to Kansas which fulfills their obligation regarding the advanced timeline given from the LCC. While their location proposal continues to evolve, it will not be finalized or considered this year or during the upcoming legislative session.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/aside>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The LCC meets Monday, Dec. 22. Sen. Masterson and House Speaker Dan Hawkins have both previously said they had no interest in extending those incentives into next year. Rep. Hawkins repeated that Thursday, insisting the teams reach a decision by Dec. 31.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"pullquote | article-pullquote\">\n<blockquote class=\"blockquote | fst-italic bg-light p-4 border-start\">\n<p class=\"mb-2\">\u201cJust as a point of clarification, December 31st is the STAR Bond deadline. It\u2019s been the deadline since the LCC voted on it and as Chair of the LCC next year, I can assure you that is not going to change. I  hope both the Chiefs and the Royals can come to an agreement with the State by that date.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/aside>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Sen. Masterson later clarified he did not mean the deadline has been altered.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cWhile I believe the Royals are committed to relocating to Kansas, this does not alter the procedural deadline set by the Legislative Coordinating Council for December 31, 2025,\u201d Sen. Masterson said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">As for the Kansas City Chiefs, the Kansas Department of Commerce told 13 NEWS Thursday that it is still pursuing a deal with the team.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cThe Kansas Department of Commerce continues to conduct a careful analysis of costs and benefits as part of crafting agreements to keep the Chiefs and Royals in the region while maximizing growth opportunities for Kansas,\u201d Commerce Communications Director Patrick Lowry said. \u201cBecause all major economic development projects require discretion and confidentiality, the department will have no further comment regarding negotiations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"copyright |\"><i>Copyright 2025 WIBW.
