A new update from Morrissey<\/a> has seemingly indicated that he\u2019s now signed to Sire Records, notably three years after he left Capitol.<\/p>\n A post shared today (Friday December 19) on his website<\/a> featured a picture of the label\u2019s logo with no further context added. However, many of his fans are now convinced he\u2019s inked a deal that will see the release of his long-awaited album \u2018Bonfire Of Teenagers\u2019.<\/p>\n Sire Records notably released landmark albums such as the Ramones\u2019 1976 debut \u2018Ramones\u2019, Talking Heads\u2019 1980 LP \u2018Remain In Light\u2019 and Madonna\u2019s 1983 self-titled debut. The US label is owned by Warner Music Group and distributed by Warner Records.<\/p>\n NME<\/em> has reached out to Sire Records for comment.<\/p>\n Issues with \u2018Bonfire\u2026\u2019 date back to December 2022, when Morrissey revealed that he had \u201cvoluntarily withdrawn from any association with Capitol Records\u201d<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 despite announcing that he would be releasing the LP with them just two months earlier. He also\u00a0revealed that\u00a0Miley Cyrus<\/a>\u00a0had\u00a0asked to have her backing vocals removed<\/a> from the \u2018Bonfire\u2026\u2019 track \u2018I Am Veronica\u2019<\/a>, which they\u2019d recorded in 2020.<\/p>\n Both severed partnerships came in relation to the musician\u2019s political stance and his support for the controversial far-right party For Britain, whose badge he sported during a 2019 television appearance<\/a>.<\/p>\n Despite provoking controversy with his political views \u2013 something which former bandmate\u00a0Johnny Marr<\/a>\u00a0said\u00a0\u201ccast a shadow over The Smiths\u201d<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 the frontman has\u00a0insisted that he is not far right<\/a>.<\/p>\n Morrissey signed to Sire Records. He further said he was \u201cquickly coming around to\u201d the belief that the company only signed \u2018Bonfire Of Teenagers\u2019 \u201cin order to sabotage it\u201d<\/a>.<\/p>\n Later allegations from the \u2018Suedehead\u2019 singer included that the CEO of Capitol was trying to derail his career<\/a>. He also took to his website to say he was being \u201cgagged\u201d over its release<\/a>. Blaming the \u201cidiot culture\u201d, he said: \u201cThere is no arts media anymore in England, therefore there\u2019s no one to whom I can sit and talk about this. The fact is, genuine artists in England are now being held hostage by people who object to any manner of alternative opinion.\u201d<\/p>\n Last year, he said he\u00a0had bought back the rights to the album<\/a>, as well as his 2014 record \u2018World Peace Is None Of Your Business\u2019. He later told\u00a0Medium<\/i><\/a>\u00a0that \u201cthere are two albums\u201d that he has completed but is unable to release, the other being \u2018Without Music, The World Dies\u2019.<\/p>\n \u201cThe second one was re-recorded in France in late 2023, and given a new title. We scrapped half of the tracks and we recorded six new ones, and so it is not the album from the beginning of 2023.\u201d<\/p>\n He added: \u201cLabels say that they are both fantastic high-quality pop albums but they say that they can\u2019t release them because they don\u2019t want the wrath of\u00a0The Guardian<\/i>\u00a0making their lives hell. The harassment campaign against me by\u00a0The Guardian<\/i>\u00a0is worldwide knowledge now, and it is effective in the sense that labels do not want to become involved with this Gotcha!
