Finnish melancholic progressive metal legends Amorphis<\/a><\/strong> have unveiled “Crowned In Crimson,” a new single that also serves as the main theme song for the upcoming historical fantasy film Son Of Revenge \u2013 The Story Of Kalevala<\/em>. The film is set to premiere in Finland on January 16, 2026.<\/p>\n

“Crowned In Crimson” features a striking father\u2013daughter vocal performance from Amorphis<\/strong> frontman Tomi Joutsen<\/strong> and his daughter Iida Joutsen<\/strong>, adding an intimate and deeply emotional dimension to the band’s already expansive sound.<\/p>\n

The song’s sweeping dynamics and melodic depth reflect the sonic world of Amorphis<\/strong>‘ acclaimed 2025 studio album Borderland<\/em>, while introducing a new cinematic sensitivity perfectly suited to its role as a film theme. Lyrically, the track brings the tragic Kalevala hero Kullervo to life, with words penned by longtime Amorphis<\/strong> collaborator Pekka Kainulainen<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

For decades, Amorphis<\/strong> have drawn inspiration from The Kalevala, Finland’s national epic, reimagining its myths and characters through heavy, melodic, and progressive metal. With Son Of Revenge \u2013 The Story Of Kalevala<\/em>, those mythic narratives now transition from music to the big screen.<\/p>\n

Amorphis<\/strong> guitarist and songwriter Esa Holopainen<\/strong> explained how the collaboration came together: “Director Antti Jokinen<\/strong> got in touch with us and briefly told us about his ambitious film project. We arranged a meeting with him, during which we were able to see visual material from the film and go through the script. Antti<\/strong> hoped that Amorphis<\/strong> would create the film’s theme song \u2014 a project we agreed to immediately.”<\/p>\n

Film director Antti Jokinen<\/strong> shared why Amorphis<\/strong> felt like the perfect choice: “Amorphis<\/strong>‘s music feels like strength wrapped in beauty \u2014 heavy enough to shake the landscape, yet poetic. Their music really lifts my spirit into the world of Kalevala myths and its characters. Exactly what I was looking for when thinking about the theme song for my film. I’m very pleased they agreed to do it.”<\/p>\n

Son Of Revenge \u2013 The Story Of Kalevala<\/em> is an upcoming Finnish historical fantasy film directed by Antti Jokinen<\/strong> and written by Jokinen<\/strong> and Jorma Tommila<\/strong>. Based on The Kalevala, the film follows Kullervo<\/strong>, a tragic anti-hero driven by vengeance, sorrow, and supernatural power. The film stars Elias Salonen<\/strong> as Kullervo<\/strong> and is shot in Nurmes, Finland.
