Dave Chappelle made fun of comparisons between conservative activist Charlie Kirk and civil rights icon Martin Luther King Jr. in a surprise Netflix standup special<\/a> released Friday.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Following the fatal shooting of Kirk, some on the right began to liken his life and death to that of King, who was assassinated in 1968. Media personality Glenn Beck, for instance, called on cities<\/a> to name streets after the Turning Point USA founder, proclaiming him \u201ca civil rights leader as much as Martin Luther King.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cThat\u2019s a reach,\u201d Chappelle said in a clip widely circulated on social media<\/a>. \u201cYou know, they both got murdered in a terrible fashion. They both got shot in the neck. But that\u2019s about where those similarities ended.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Calling Kirk a \u201cmotherfucking Internet personality,\u201d he asked the crowd, \u201cCan you imagine if Dr. King was behaving like Charlie Kirk?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n The comedian then launched into an impression of King\u2019s recognizable voice speaking in the lingo of an online influencer.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u2033\u2018Smash that like button and subscribe!\u2019\u201d Chappelle boomed. \u201d\u2018Follow me for more content like this! Though he had previously praised King, in 2023 he called him \u201cawful\u201d and someone who simply \u201csaid one good thing he actually didn\u2019t believe,\u201d Wired reported<\/a> at the time.
