Original Pantera<\/a> vocalist Terry Glaze is back in a new supergroup called Axe Dragger, who just released their self-titled debut single.<\/p>\n

Glaze is joined by Fu Manchu<\/a> guitarist Bob Balch, Dark Funeral<\/a> bassist Fredrik Isaksson and former Pentagram<\/a> drummer Pete Campbell. Axe Dragger will release their self-titled debut album on March 6 via Ripple Music. It\u2019s available to preorder<\/a> now.<\/p>\n

How Did Axe Dragger\u00a0Take Shape?<\/h3>\n

Axe Dragger began as a remote collaboration between Balch and Campbell, inspired by classic metal giants such as Judas Priest<\/a>, Iron Maiden<\/a> and Dio<\/a>. Glaze and Isaksson later joined the fold.<\/p>\n

The supergroup wears its collective influences on its sleeve on \u201cAxe Dragger,\u201d the first song they wrote. It\u2019s a heavy, mid-tempo stomper full of nimble riffs, piercing vocals and evocative lyrics about fighting demons, wielding swords and stealing souls.<\/p>\n

“This\u00a0was the first song we wrote,\u201d Balch said in a statement.\u00a0\u201cWhen drummer Minnesota Pete Campbell reached out to me about collaborating on a metal record, those riffs came out of me moments later. The song pretty much wrote itself.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued: \u201cI thought Terry Glaze would sound great on it, so we sent it over to him. When we both heard the vocals and lyrics, we knew we had something special. I mean \u2014 he sings the words \u2018heavy metal\u2019 in the first verse! That song lit a fire under all of us and ended up spawning the entire record.\u201d<\/p>\n

What Happened to Terry Glaze?<\/h3>\n

Glaze appeared on Pantera\u2019s first three albums: 1983\u2019s Metal Magic<\/em>, 1984\u2019s Projects in the Jungle<\/em> and 1985\u2019s I Am the Night<\/em>. He left the band in 1986 due to disagreements over their musical direction: Glaze wanted to continue pursuing their glam metal sound while the rest of the band wanted to go heavier. Phil Anselmo<\/a> replaced Glaze on 1988\u2019s Power Metal<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Following his departure from Pantera, Glaze formed the hard rock band Lord Tracy. They released one album, 1989’s\u00a0Deaf Gods of Babylon<\/em>, before disbanding in 1991.<\/p>\n
