Majestic Elementary<\/a> Principal Marianne Johansen, Blodgett\u2019s impact extends beyond music.<\/p>\n\u201cLisa is the heartbeat of this school. I just wish I could clone her and put her in every grade level,\u201d said Johansen with a laugh. \u201cWhen kids who are struggling wind up in my office, I often ask them, \u2018who\u2019s an adult in the building with whom you connect? Like who\u2019s an adult that you feel you can trust?\u2019 Overwhelmingly, students will say Miss Blodgett.\u201d<\/p>\n
That dedication and passion is what led Blodgett to be chosen for the Rose Parade.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m excited to go,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
And she won\u2019t just be marching in the parade. Blodgett will also be playing her trombone, marching the 5-and-a-half mile route.<\/p>\n
\u201cPlaying is one thing, but playing and walking also, that\u2019s a different ball game,\u201d she said with a laugh. \u201cWe\u2019ve got five songs that we have to memorize. I\u2019m home marching in my living room and I\u2019m playing through the tracks just to make sure I\u2019ve got it all up here so that I\u2019m ready to play when I get there.\u201d<\/p>\n
For the students at Majestic Elementary, Blodgett\u2019s selection is proof of the value of music, creativity and dedication.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe tell our kids all the time to dream big. You can do whatever you want. I think it\u2019s up to us to set that example of what to dream for,\u201d said Johansen. \u201cMiss Blodgett sets that example.\u201d<\/p>\n
For Blodgett, it\u2019s that connection to her students that makes it all worth it.<\/p>\n
\u201cMaking connections with kids is probably one of the most important things in education,\u201d she said. \u201cIf you don\u2019t make that connection, what you do isn\u2019t going to always be important for them.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
