\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tby Jeroslyn JoVonn <\/b><\/a><\/p>\n December 23, 2025<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n Charlamagne reflects on the time he tried to provoke Kelly Rowland on-air after Wendy Williams ordered him to “get her.”<\/p>\n Charlamagne Tha God is reflecting on his early days in radio, when he reportedly felt pressured to shade<\/a> Kelly Rowland on air after Wendy Williams encouraged him to act as an \u201cattack dog\u201d toward celebrities.<\/p>\n The veteran radio host and media mogul appeared on the Dec. 22 episode of Angie Martinez\u2019s IRL<\/em> podcast, where he reflected on<\/a> his time working with Wendy Williams at WBLS in New York City. As Williams was preparing to launch her celebrity gossip\u2013driven daytime talk show, Charlamagne recalled how her push to secure the TV role shaped his on-air duties in ways he says \u201ccompromised\u201d his personal values.<\/p>\n \u201cWendy was the one because I got with Wendy, I was really compromising myself for a position,\u201d Charlamagne said in a clip<\/a> captured by The Neighborhood Talk<\/em>.<\/p>\n \u201cLike, I was really the pitbull. Like purposely, that was my job, and she would be like \u2018Get get get them. I want you to get that person.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n Charlamagne believes Williams pushed him to antagonize celebrities because \u201cshe was trying to make the transition\u201d to television, he said. However, at the same time, the then-rising radio host struggled internally with how he was being pushed to treat the people he targeted on air.<\/p>\n \u201cIt would be sometimes where, like, my conscience would be like, why?\u201d Charlamagne shared, recalling his first on-air encounter with Kelly Rowland, where he purposely shaded her to see her reaction.<\/p>\n \u201cLike, and the one I always remember is Kelly Rowland. Like, she was like, \u2018Get her.\u2019 And I\u2019m like, \u2018Kelly Rowland? Like, why?\u2019 Like, what did Kelly Rowland do?\u201d he said.<\/p>\n Martinez asked Charlamagne how he tried to provoke Rowland<\/a>, and he said he did so by referring to her as Beyonc\u00e9\u2019s \u201csidekick\u201d in Destiny\u2019s Child.<\/p>\n \u201cI think I came up with this angle. Like, we both know how it feels to be sidekicks. So I\u2019m a sidekick to Wendy. She\u2019s a sidekick to Beyonc\u00e9,\u201d he recalled.<\/p>\n Charlamagne now says the remark was \u201cstupid, disrespectful sh-t for no reason,\u201d with both he and Martinez acknowledging how nice and friendly Rowland is.
