For most of the year, I couldn\u2019t care less about Travis Kelce. I mean, good for him: he\u2019s engaged<\/a> to one of the biggest\u00a0pop stars in the world; GQ<\/i> dubbed<\/a> him \u201cAmerica\u2019s Sweetheart\u201d in August; and he co-hosts<\/a> a successful and rather enjoyable podcast with his brother, Jason\u2014even if it\u2019s just another offering by two men<\/a>.<\/p>\n But come Yuletide, I am unashamedly one of Kelce\u2019s 189,381 listeners on Spotify\u2014for no other reason than his and his brother\u2019s rendition of The Pogues\u2019 \u201c<\/span>Fairytale of New York,\u201d called \u201cFairytale of Philadelphia.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Let me preface this by saying that I grew up in New Jersey, and I\u2019ve long been a fan of Jason, who spent his entire 13-year career in football playing as a center for the Philadelphia Eagles. I first saw the older Kelce at the team\u2019s victory parade in 2018, after I split a $93 cab at 4 a.m. from New Jersey to Philadelphia with three of my friends to watch the Eagles celebrate their first-ever Super Bowl win. We waited for hours in front of the city\u2019s Art Museum before he appeared dressed as a mummer and shouted into the microphone<\/a>, \u201cYou want to talk about an underdog? You want to talk about a hungry dog? For 52 years, you\u2019ve been starved in this Championship. Everybody wonders why we\u2019re so mean, everybody wonders why the Philadelphia Eagles aren\u2019t the nicest fans\u2014if I don\u2019t eat breakfast, I\u2019m pissed off.\u201d Great stuff, and it\u2019s one of the rare times that I remember feeling a rush of adrenaline-fueled pride\u00a0for Philadelphia. <\/span><\/p>\n The only other times I feel that are when I listen to \u201cFairytale of Philadelphia.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
