Members of the U.K. public give members of the royal family gifts during their Christmas walkabout \u2014 but what happens to the presents?<\/p>\n

Prince George<\/strong>, 12, Princess Charlotte<\/strong>, 10, and Prince Louis<\/strong>, 7, are traditionally the royal family members who receive gifts from the public on Christmas. As it turns out, Buckingham Palace does actually have an official gift policy for the royal family. In order for the kids to keep what\u2019s given to them, some specific criteria needs to be met.<\/p>\n

Hello! Magazine<\/em><\/a> previously reported that royal protocol states the royal family \u201care not permitted to keep particular gifts, no matter how graciously they initially accept them.\u201d Instead, they will be added to the Royal Collection.<\/p>\n

However, there is a bit of a loophole when it comes to the kids.<\/p>\n

The seven-page \u201croyal gift policy\u201d shared on the royal family\u2019s official website notes that George, Charlotte and Louis can accept flowers, food and other consumable items \u2014 within a reasonable quality \u2014 from people not personally known to the royal family.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tKing Charles III loves the royal family\u2019s Christmas traditions \u2014 especially this one aspect of the holiday season. \u201cThey love doing gag gift exchanges and a Sandringham walkabout,\u201d a source tells Us Weekly exclusively. \u201cThey don\u2019t do anything extravagant for gifts and do more funny gifts that make each other laugh.\u201d The royal family members [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Books that aren\u2019t controversial are also accepted, but only if they\u2019re presented by the author. The kids can also take items of \u201csmall monetary value,\u201d which cost less than $200. The royal family will return gifts to whoever gave them if they feel another organization can benefit.<\/p>\n

George, Charlotte and Louis join their parents, Prince William<\/strong> and Princess Kate Middleton<\/strong>, for the annual walkabout at Sandringham<\/a> every Christmas. Other traditions from the family include attending mass at St. Mary Magdalene Church before listening to King Charles III<\/strong>\u2019s Christmas address.<\/a><\/p>\n

This year, the holidays with the royal family are keeping a positive tone following past health struggles and scandals.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe celebration may carry a wistful tone,\u201d a source told Us Weekly<\/em> exclusively in our cover story earlier this month<\/a>. \u201cHowever, it will also be a time of celebration, especially after Kate received the all-clear.\u201d<\/p>\n

The insider added, \u201cThey all want to make the most of their time together.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Kate, 43, went into remission this past January<\/a> after a years-long cancer battle, Charles, 77, still isn\u2019t out of the clear.<\/p>\n

\u201cCharles prioritizes duty, but he\u2019s also a family man who knows his time is precious,\u201d the same source continued. \u201cHe wants a special last Christmas in case it\u2019s his last.\u201d<\/p>\n

Charles is set to take part in the annual walkabout.<\/p>\n

\u201cNothing would stop Charles from doing that,\u201d the source said, referring to the family\u2019s Christmas traditions. \u201cHe will do everything expected of him and more.\u201d<\/p>\n
