Baby<\/a>. by Gwen Stefani.\u201d<\/p>\n \u2014\u2014\u2014<\/p>\n ALEXI ALARIO: The Well-Tempered Clavier<\/a> and girl groups of all sorts\u2014my favorites are the Ronettes and IZ*ONE.<\/p>\n BIZ SHERBERT: \u201cFruits of My Labor\u201d by Lucinda Williams.<\/p>\n SAM CUMMINS: Tom Petty, Tom T. Hall, Tom Tom Club.<\/p>\n \u2014\u2014\u2014<\/p>\n \u201cMy first full album experience where I was like, \u201cHoly shit, music is everything,\u201d was 21 by Adele<\/a>. One of my mom\u2019s friends had an extra CD and I stole it and played it over and over and over and over.\u201d<\/p>\n \u2014\u2014\u2014<\/p>\n \u201cI also listened to [John F. Kennedy] Jr. read his father\u2019s book Profiles in Courage <\/a>every day before work to get into his cadence and vocal style.\u201d<\/p>\n \u2014\u2014\u2014<\/p>\n \u201cDavid Bowie<\/a>\u2026And then, of course, George Michael. Obviously Michael Jackson\u2014\u201dRemember the Time.\u201d Are you kidding me? Then there were all of the female inspirations that I was listening to with Mommy\u2014Madonna, Whitney [Houston], Donna Summer, Barbra Streisand.\u201d<\/p>\n \u2014\u2014\u2014<\/p>\n \u201cAt the moment, I was just talking about Digga D<\/a>\u2013he\u2019s a British rapper. He\u2019s kind of been on the scene for a couple of years now. He\u2019s pretty sick. I think Central Cee\u2019s doing bits. I think Jay Cole\u2019s doing bits.\u201d<\/p>\n \u2014\u2014\u2014<\/p>\n \u201cSOPHIE<\/a>. I do not believe any musical death in the 21st century has so violently altered the trajectory of pop music than hers. I think about what she would have done next, even though I would be so powerless to execute it.\u201d<\/p>\n \u2014\u2014\u2014<\/p>\n \u201cI listened to [Bruce Springsteen]<\/a> so much that it was driving me crazy.\u201d<\/p>\n \u2014\u2014\u2014<\/p>\n \u201cDo you know Karina Longworth\u2019s podcast, You Must Remember This<\/a>? She\u2019s a total cinema freak. She contextualizes these eras of film with what\u2019s going on sociopolitically and culturally with the world at the time and how that tracks through decades of patterns in cinema and the industry.
