One royal family has embraced the tacky Christmas trend as they
\nmade their final preparations for the season.<\/p>\n

Norway\u2019s future king even put aside the traditional regal suit
\nand tie to get ready for the holidays in an ugly Christmas
\nsweater.<\/p>\n

Crown Prince
\nHaakon gets full marks for his Gen X take on the festivities as he
\nwas seen decorating the tree in a jumper with a huge Santa on the
\nfront.<\/h2>\n

It\u2019s a full on Christmas sweater with the Santa against an eye
\nwatering red and black check motif.<\/p>\n

The Crown Prince, 52, was clearly loving this year\u2019s trend for a
\n90s Christmas where the old decorations are dusted down and
\neverything looks thrown together. However, he took a Gen Z lead to
\nshow off his efforts, adding a reel to the Norwegian royal
\nInstagram feed complete with Christmas music playing in the
\nbackground.<\/p>\n

His family trimmed their tree with a mish mash of decorations
\nthat have clearly been kept over the years including a sparkly
\nparty hat shaped bauble and a strange little Santa figure that\u2019s
\nbeen loved through the decades. There were also plenty of
\nglitterball baubles and decorations with extra sparkle to keep the
\ntacky Christmas theme going.<\/p>\n

While it didn\u2019t quite look like Christmas had thrown up in their
\npalace, the end result was a long way from the usual uniform
\ncollection of red, gold and green baubles or neat strings of off
\nwhite lights that trim most regal trees. And just to add the final
\n90s touch, these royals didn\u2019t decorate their tree until the final
\nSunday before Advent, rejecting the 2020s push to get the decs up
\nearlier every year.<\/p>\n

There was, however, a nod to their royal past as instead of
\ntinsel, they had a garland of Norwegian flags with what appeared to
\nbe black and white photos of past princes and princesses to wrap
\naround the middle of the fir tree. And it kept with another of the
\n2025 Christmas trends \u2013 enjoying the memories and feelings that
\nreverting to the 90s for your festive celebrations invokes.<\/p>\n

The future king\u2019s family didn\u2019t follow his ugly Christmas
\nsweater lead. His wife,
\nCrown Princess Mette-Marit<\/a>, chose a rather elegant fir green
\njumper for the event while their son, Prince Sverre Magnus, went
\nthe way of all 20 year olds and chose jeans with a plain sweater.
\nHis sister, 21 year old Princess Ingrid Alexandra, had an on trend
\nwinter white sweater with blue snowflake motif for the
\noccasion.<\/p>\n

However, Sverre, had already snuck a novelty Christmas twist
\ninto the official Norwegian royal Christmas photo. As he joined his
\ngrandparents, King Harald and Queen Sonja, for the portrait, the
\nthird in line to the throne went off script with his outfit.<\/p>\n

While the King and Queen of Norway looked the picture of
\nelegance as they sat on gilded chairs in front of a picture perfect
\nChristmas tree, their only grandson took things his own way. Sverre
\nadded a novelty Christmas tie to the mix, setting the tone for the
\nlater dive into 90s nostalgia led by his dad.<\/p>\n

Royal nods to festive dressing are usually just that \u2013 royal. We
\nmight get a red or green tie from the men and perhaps a ruby or
\nemerald brooch from the women in the run up. For major Christmas
\nevents, it\u2019s perhaps a red coat or green dress for the queens and
\nprincesses and, well, a red or green tie for the kings and princes.
\nThis year, two princes have decided to embrace the latest tacky
\ntrend and we all like them just a little bit more for it.<\/p>\n
