Following King Charles\u2019s cancer diagnosis last year, Queen Camilla asked her children, Tom Parker Bowles and Laura Lopes<\/a>, to join the royals at Sandringham for Christmas. \u201cMy mum said \u2018I\u2019d love you to come, I haven\u2019t had Christmas with you for a long time.\u2019 It has been a hell of a two years for them. The older you get, the more conscious you become of mortality, especially with illnesses and the rest of it,\u201d her son Tom told Vanity Fair<\/em>.<\/a> Despite speculation they would join the royals for the annual walk to church on Christmas day, Camilla\u2019s family did not make a public appearance<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This year, they will fully miss Christmas at Sandringham, Tom confirmed to the Daily Mail.<\/em><\/a> \u201cI\u2019m not [spending Christmas at Sandringham],\u2019 he said. \u201cNor is my sister. It\u2019ll be every other year, one year on, one year off.\u201d This Christmas, Tom will celebrate with his children Lola, 18, and Freddy, 15, at the home of his ex-wife Sara Buys. \u201cIt\u2019s back to the sofa at my ex-wife\u2019s,\u201d he told the paper.<\/p>\n

Last year, when asked if he knew anything about how the royals spend Christmas<\/a>, Tom replied, \u201cI genuinely know nothing about it. I know there\u2019s turkey and sprouts and church. And I have to bring a suit and a dinner jacket.\u201d<\/p>\n

Previously, Tom shared that Camilla would sometimes join her family, including ex-husband Andrew Parker Bowles<\/a>, for a post-Christmas celebration. \u201cMy mother and father are still great friends, and we will go down on December 27 and my mother will sometimes come,\u201d he told People<\/em><\/a>. \u201cIt is something to work towards. It\u2019s a maturity that is a great thing if \u2014 despite a marriage sometimes not working \u2013 you can keep it together for the sake of the children and the sake of each other, then it\u2019s a very good thing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tom and Laura rarely join Queen Camilla at royal events, but Laura did visit the set of Rivals <\/em>earlier this month<\/a> alongside Camilla.<\/p>\n
