The run up to New Year\u2019s Eve, and New Year\u2019s Eve itself, is well-stocked with live music in New Orleans.<\/p>\n

MANNHEIM STEAMROLLER<\/h3>\n

SUNDAY, SAENGER THEATER<\/strong><\/p>\n

In 1975, Mannheim Steamroller, the musical project of composer Chip Davis, released its debut album of neo-classical New Age rock, \u201cFresh Aire.\u201d More hit \u201cAire\u201d albums followed.<\/p>\n

In 1984, the Steamroller really picked up steam with its first Christmas-themed album. It sold millions of copies, as did the sequels \u201cA Fresh Aire Christmas\u201d and \u201cChristmas In the Aire,\u201d as Davis and his collaborators interwove new compositions alongside reimagined traditional Christmas carols. Mannheim Steamroller\u2019s music turned up everywhere from NFL games in December to Rush Limbaugh\u2019s radio broadcasts; it is now part of the soundtrack of the season.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

As does Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Mannheim Steamroller puts two separate companies on the road to maximize the number concerts in a limited touring window for Christmas music. The \u201cred\u201d Mannheim Steamroller troupe sets up at the Saenger Theatre on Sunday. Tickets start at $48.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a relatively silent night on Christmas Day. But legendary Meters bassist George Porter Jr.<\/strong> will celebrate his 78th birthday at the Maple Leaf Bar at 9 p.m. Tickets are $20 advance, $25 at the door.<\/p>\n

Also on Christmas, Keny Kerth Jass<\/strong> will swing out late in the afternoon at Rock \u2018N\u2019 Bowl with special guest Vince Vance<\/strong>. Doors open at 4 p.m. Admission is $5 cash per person. Later, at 8:30 p.m., the band Beach Face<\/strong> is at Rock \u2018N\u2019 Bowl ($12).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

On the day after Christmas, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band<\/strong> heads Uptown to headline Tipitina\u2019s. Teenage piano prodigy River Eckert<\/strong> opens the show with a solo set at 8 p.m. Tickets are $32.<\/p>\n

Singer Ingrid Lucia<\/strong> hosts her \u201cNew Orleans Holiday Revue\u201d at Chickie Wah Wah with special guests Irma Thomas, Kermit Ruffins, Delfeayo Marsalis, James Andrews<\/strong> and more, starting at 8 p.m. Tickets are $30 plus fees.<\/p>\n

New Orleans trumpeter and singer James Andrews<\/strong> keeps the party going at the Maple Leaf at 8 p.m. ($15 advance, $20 at the door).<\/p>\n

New Orleans pianist John “Papa” Gros<\/strong> presides over \u201cA Yuletide Soir\u00e9e\u201d at Chickie Wah Wah starting at 9 p.m. ($25).<\/p>\n

Keyboardist Kyle Roussel<\/strong> celebrates the Grammy nomination for his \u201cChurch of New Orleans\u201d album with two shows at Snug Harbor featuring drummer Herlin Riley<\/strong> and vocalist Erica Falls<\/strong>. Keyboardist and singer Jon Cleary<\/strong> and his airtight funk\/R&B band the Absolute Monster Gentlemen<\/strong> hold court at Tipitina\u2019s. Charlie & the Tropicales<\/strong> open the show at 8 p.m. General admission tickets are $28; \u201cpremium balcony\u201d tickets are $50.<\/p>\n

Given the busy schedules of its four members, New Orleans modern jazz quartet Astral Project<\/strong> doesn\u2019t perform frequently anymore. But saxophonist Tony Dagradi<\/strong>, guitarist Steve Masakowski<\/strong>, bassist James Singleton<\/strong> and drummer Johnny Vidacovich<\/strong> will be at Snug Harbor at 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. Tuesday ($35).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

WEDNESDAY aka NEW YEAR\u2019S EVE<\/h3>\n

The Revivalists<\/strong> spend much of the year on the road headlining festivals, amphitheaters and theaters. But they typically perform in their hometown on New Year\u2019s Eve. This year\u2019s NYE show is at the Orpheum Theater. Fans who buy a ticket to the Dec. 31 blowout\u00a0\u2014 which also features opening act The Rumble<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 can also purchase an add-on ticket to the Revivalists\u2019 revived RevHeads Ball, a more intimate, in-the-round, reduced-capacity show Dec. 30 at the Orpheum. Tickets for the New Year\u2019s Eve show start at $61.<\/p>\n

DJ Soul Sister<\/strong> will board her New Year\u2019s Eve Soul Train at the Civic Theatre for the first time since the venue’s 20th anniversary in 2022. At the show, she\u2019ll spin funk, disco and R&B songs on vinyl that were featured on the \u201cSoul Train\u201d TV dance show from the mid-1970s through the mid-1980s. The event also features \u201cSoul Train\u201d projections and Soul Sister\u2019s Groove Express Dancers. Dancing isn\u2019t mandatory, but it will be pretty hard to resist. General admission tickets are $35 advance, $39.50 day of show. A $135 premium ticket includes an open bar, balcony access with seating and other amenities.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

When he was a celebrity.land anchor, Baton Rouge native Don Lemon\u2019s<\/strong> boozy broadcasts from New Orleans on New Year\u2019s Eve were always unpredictable. He returns to New Orleans to livestream his own show, \u201cDon Lemon Live: New Year\u2019s EVE VIP Experience,\u201d from a block party-style event on Frenchmen Street. The Treme Brass Band<\/strong> will be the house band at the Spotted Cat while Glen David Andrews<\/strong> will be onstage at d.b.a. Big Freedia<\/strong> and other musicians, culture bearers and chefs will make special appearances throughout the night. Tickets start at $178 for general admission. VIP options are also available.<\/p>\n

The members of Galactic<\/strong> ring in the New Year at their own Tipitina\u2019s, with the Brass-A-Holics<\/strong> opening the show at 9 p.m. General admission tickets are $81; \u201cVIP balcony\u201d tickets, which include open bar, food and other amenities, are $225.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Funky party band Flow Tribe<\/strong> is at the Blue Nile on Frenchmen Street; advance general admission is $35.<\/p>\n

Pianist Josh Paxton<\/strong> plays a free 5 p.m. set at Snug Harbor. Later, trombonist Delfeayo Marsalis & the Uptown Jazz Orchestra<\/strong> swing out a bit later than normal at Snug Harbor: 8 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Tickets to the early show, if available, are $45; tickets to the late set are $65.<\/p>\n

Boozy garage rock and R&B band Morning 40 Federation<\/strong> reunites at Chickie Wah Wah, with She Would<\/strong> and Sick Thoughts<\/strong> opening. Tickets start at $40.<\/p>\n
