Brown and Nicole Brydon Bloom in \u201cParadise.\u201d  <span class=\"credit\">\u00a9Hulu\/Courtesy Everett Collection<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>Several series returned after long breaks (\u201cSeverance\u201d), while other shows came out of nowhere to take the world by storm (\u201cThe Pitt,\u201d \u201cHeated Rivalry\u201d).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Plenty of quality offerings were dished up, ranging from comedies to dramas to genre-bending oddities.\u00a02025\u2019s TV stars hailed from all corners, including old-timers making comebacks (Noah Wyle), award show darlings (Sarah Snook), movie stars (Seth Rogen) and newcomers (Connor Storrie).<\/p>\n<p>Honorable mentions go to <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/11\/14\/entertainment\/breaking-bad-creators-pluribus-is-a-sure-emmys-contender-if-you-can-handle-how-depressing-it-is\/\">Apple\u2019s acclaimed sci-fi show \u201cPluribus,\u201d<\/a> helmed by \u201cBreaking Bad\u201d creator Vince Gilligan, and HBO\u2019s thriller \u201cTask\u201d starring Mark Ruffalo.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The list is subjective, as there are a lot of shows out there, but these are the 10 series that stood out.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u201cSeverance\u201d (AppleTV+)\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Britt Lower and Adam Scott in \u201cSeverance.\u201d  <span class=\"credit\">\u00a9Apple TV\/Courtesy Everett Collection<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The work is mysterious and important. After a long absence \u2014 as the genre-bending AppleTV+ thriller first premiered in 2022 \u2014 \u201cSeverance\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/01\/07\/entertainment\/severance-season-2-review-weirder-and-wilder\/\">returned for its sophomore season with aplomb<\/a>. As the story continued, following employees at a cult-like biotech company, the show rose to meet the audience\u2019s high expectations. It knocked it out of the park, deftly balancing <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/01\/15\/entertainment\/how-severance-is-putting-lost-and-westworld-to-shame\/\">its mystery box plot<\/a> with heart, emotion and plenty of human drama. It\u2019s easy for sci-fi shows to feel chilly and cold, but \u201cSeverance\u201d avoids it. Performances from cast members such as Adam Scott, Tramell Tillman and Britt Lower rightfully got awards buzz. In a world where some shows and movies feel \u201cmade by committee\u201d \u2014 or worse,<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/11\/05\/entertainment\/kim-kardashians-alls-fair-is-a-train-wreck-sarah-paulson-glenn-close-dont-help\/\"> written by ChatGPT<\/a> \u2014 this show feels like the work of a singular, human, wildly creative mind.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u201cThe Chair Company\u201d (HBO)\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Tim Robinson and Lake Bell in \u201cThe Chair Company.\u201d <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Comedian Tim Robinson \u2014 an \u201cSNL\u201d alum whose style was too weird and niche for the variety show \u2014 is known for delivering comedy in smaller doses (in his sketch show \u201cI Think You Should Leave\u201d and in the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/06\/17\/entertainment\/how-to-stream-tim-robinson-paul-rudd-movie-friendship-at-home\/\">movie \u201cFriendship\u201d<\/a>). His first stab at a serialized TV show could have gone awry. Instead,<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/11\/28\/entertainment\/how-lake-bell-keeps-a-straight-face-opposite-tim-robinsons-lunacy-in-the-chair-company\/\"> the HBO comedy was an off-the wall<\/a> gonzo ride. The story centered on a family man in a corporate job who became obsessed with the idea that there was a conspiracy involving a company that made\u2026chairs. Robinson\u2019s brand of humor isn\u2019t for everyone; the show is utterly bizarre. But this amusing take on the conspiracy thriller genre stands out as unique and distinctive. It\u2019s certainly not a conventional or forgettable comedy. \u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u201cThe Narrow Road to the Deep North\u201d (Prime Video)<\/strong><\/h2>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Jacob Elordi and Simon Baker in \u201cThe Narrow Road to the Deep North.\u201d  <span class=\"credit\">\u00a9Amazon\/Courtesy Everett Collection<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>When the 2<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/12\/08\/entertainment\/golden-globes-2026-full-list-of-nominees-announced\/\">026 Golden Globe nominations were announced,<\/a> giving Jacob Elordi not one but two nods, everyone\u2019s reaction was, \u201cWhat did he <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/09\/09\/entertainment\/frankenstein-review-jacob-elordi-breathes-life-into-guillermo-del-toro-adaptation\/\">do aside from \u2018Frankenstein\u2019<\/a> \u2014\u00a0 is he that big of an<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/04\/05\/lifestyle\/hot-guys-carry-handbags-now-how-travis-lebron-and-jacob-made-man-purses-a-must\/\"> \u2018it boy\u2019<\/a> that they\u2019re just giving him bonus nominations, now?\u201d It turns out, his more obscure project is worth watching. This underrated Australian miniseries was helmed by stylish director Justin Kurzel and adapted from a<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" data-aps-asc-tag=\"nypost-20\" data-aps-asin=\"0804171475\" data-wrapped-template=\"https:\/\/r.nypostlink.com?btn_ref=org-19984c113c692001&amp;btn_url\" href=\"https:\/\/r.nypostlink.com?btn_ref=org-19984c113c692001&amp;btn_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FNarrow-Road-Deep-North%2Fdp%2F0804171475%3Ftag%3Dnypost-20%26asc_refurl%3Dhttps%3A%2F%2Fnypost.com%2F2025%2F12%2F26%2Fentertainment%2Fthe-10-best-tv-shows-of-2025-all-her-fault-the-pitt-and-more%2F%26asc_source%3Dweb\" rel=\"nofollow\">n award-winning novel<\/a>. The story centers on his time as a prisoner of war \u2014 and the lasting impact of the trauma \u2014 as well as his affair with his uncle\u2019s wife. It went viral for its steam factor \u2014 and it\u2019s true, it\u2019s<em> not<\/em> a show to watch on your phone on the subway. But, it still deserves its place on the list for having a surprising level of nuance, for delivering a refreshing take on a romance that\u2019s not just ballgowns or teen drama \u2014 no offense to \u201cBridgerton\u201d and <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/16\/entertainment\/why-do-love-triangles-endure-in-pop-culture-summer-i-turned-pretty-and-more\/\">\u201cThe Summer I Turned Pretty\u201d<\/a> \u2014 and for its star-making performances, especially from Connor Storrie.\u00a0\u201cHeated Rivalry\u201d also warrants recognition for bringing sexy back, amid <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/10\/26\/entertainment\/gen-zs-anti-sex-crusade-will-kill-good-movies-and-tv\/\">reports that Gen-Z doesn\u2019t want sex in TV and movies<\/a> anymore. Perhaps the eulogies for the lost art of the TV<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/11\/03\/lifestyle\/most-teens-dont-like-romance-sex-on-tv-new-study\/\"> sex scene<\/a> were premature.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u201cThe Studio\u201d (AppleTV+)<\/strong><\/h2>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Seth Rogen in \u201cThe Studio.\u201d <span class=\"credit\">\u00a9Apple TV\/Courtesy Everett Collection<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Seth Rogen departed from his familiar brand of stoner-bro comedy for a sharp satire of the entertainment industry. Hollywood loves a story about itself, so it\u2019s no surprise that this AppleTV+ comedy got showered in Emmys and Golden Globes \u2014 but, it\u2019s also really got the goods. The story follows a studio exec (Rogen) who tries to balance his sincere desire to make art with the commercial demands of his job, often to hilarious results. It\u2019s packed with scene-stealing cameos (Martin Scorsese playing himself is especially notable). And, although it\u2019s got a lot of inside baseball references, it\u2019s still accessible and amusing to regular audiences who aren\u2019t plugged into the biz of Tinseltown.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u201c<strong>The Pitt\u201d (HBO Max)\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Noah Wyle in \u201cThe Pitt.\u201d  <span class=\"credit\">Warrick Page\/MAX<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Network style procedurals are back. Former \u201cER\u201d star Noah Wyle made his big TV comeback in another medical drama (that ended up embroiled in high-profile <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/04\/10\/entertainment\/the-pitt-star-noah-wyle-has-blunt-reaction-to-lawsuit-from-er-creators-estate\/\">legal drama with the \u201cER\u201d creator\u2019s estate<\/a>). Wyle earned an Emmy for his role as Dr. Michael \u201cRobby\u201d Robinavitch. Notably, the show didn\u2019t dive into soapy plots about the characters\u2019 personal lives or affairs, a la \u201cGrey\u2019s Anatomy.\u201d Gritty, grounded and justifiably lauded for its realism, \u201cThe Pitt\u201d took place over the course of one 15-hour shift, following competent medical staffers at a fictional Pittsburgh hospital.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u201cThe Paper\u201d (Peacock \/ NBC)\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Domhnall Gleeson as Ned and Chelsea Frei as Mare in \u201cThe Paper.\u201d  <span class=\"credit\">John P. Fleenor\/PEACOCK<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>It seemed like a bad idea to make a spinoff to \u201cThe Office.\u201d TV doesn\u2019t have a good track record with follow-ups to beloved shows (see the ill-fated \u201cFriends\u201d spinoff, \u201cJoey\u201d). But the Peacock mockumentary was a <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/09\/03\/entertainment\/the-office-spinoff-the-paper-is-out-for-delivery-review\/\">surprisingly strong <\/a>comedy, set in \u201cThe Office\u201d world. Although it didn\u2019t reach the heights of the former show, it also didn\u2019t try to. Original series creator <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/09\/02\/entertainment\/office-creator-greg-daniels-refuses-to-listen-to-critics-of-the-paper\/\">Greg Daniels returned<\/a>, and successfully enabled \u201cThe Paper\u201d to stand on its own. Rather than following employees at a paper company like the original series, this was set at a newspaper. Take it from one real newspaper employee, they nailed the satire of the job.\u00a0\u201cThe Paper\u201d wasn\u2019t groundbreaking, but it was a competent comedy that had some laugh-out-loud moments, and surpassed expectations.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u201c<strong>Adolescence\u201d (Netflix)\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Owen Cooper in \u201cAdolescence.\u201d  <span class=\"credit\">AP<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A sleeper hit that came out of nowhere, this powerful Netflix miniseries made history, as star Owen Cooper was the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2025\/09\/14\/entertainment\/the-pitt-and-the-studio-soar-at-emmys-2025-while-white-lotus-gets-shut-out-at-rather-dull-show\/\">youngest male Emmy winner at just 15<\/a>. Star and co-creator Steven Graham also got awards love. The acclaim was deserved. Intense and harrowing, this psychological thriller was about a timely topic \u2014 the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/02\/07\/business\/tiktok-pushes-toxic-misogynistic-videos-to-teenage-boys-study\/\">radicalization of teen boys<\/a> online. The <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/03\/17\/entertainment\/is-adolescence-based-on-a-true-story-all-about-netflix-miniseries\/\">story centered on a 13-year-old boy<\/a> who got arrested on suspicion of murdering a female classmate who rejected him. It\u2019s not just prescient, the series also had artistic merit, as each episode was one continuous take.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u201c<strong>Paradise\u201d (Hulu)\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Sterling K. Brown in \u201cParadise.\u201d  <span class=\"credit\">\u00a9Hulu\/Courtesy Everett Collection<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Starring the powerhouse duo of Sterling K. Brown <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/02\/25\/entertainment\/how-james-marsden-bonded-with-paradise-co-star-sterling-k-brown-and-who-keeps-prodding-about-major-death\/\">and James Marsden<\/a>, this genre-bending thriller was filled with twists and turns. For starters, it pulled the rug out from under the viewer immediately, as it waited to reveal that it was set in an underground bunker, after a doomsday event. Part <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/02\/25\/entertainment\/how-james-marsden-bonded-with-paradise-co-star-sterling-k-brown-and-who-keeps-prodding-about-major-death\/\">murder mystery<\/a>, part political thriller \u2014 as Marsden played a slain president \u2014 and part dystopian drama, the show kept viewers on their toes for an addictive genre-mash up. Since it was helmed by \u201cThis Is Us\u201d creator Dan Fogelman, it also had plenty of emotion and family drama, amid its plot twists.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u201c<strong>All Her Fault\u201d\u00a0 (Peacock)\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Sarah Snook in \u201cAll Her Fault.\u201d  <span class=\"credit\">Sarah Enticknap\/PEACOCK<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>This thriller starring Sarah Snook and Jake Lacy was the definition of \u201call gas, no brakes.\u201d The show hit the ground running, as it wasted no time before diving into its plot, following a couple frantically searching for their missing son. The strong supporting cast was rounded out by <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/11\/06\/entertainment\/bear-star-abby-elliott-on-snl-heartbreak-all-her-fault\/\">Abby Elliott,<\/a> Dakota Fanning and Michael Pena. The mystery was filled with shocks and unexpected reveals, making it a buzzy hit, and it had underlying social commentary about the expectation placed on working mothers versus fathers.
