Perhaps Choice or Select would be a better fit. Canner maybe. \u201cWar of the Worlds,\u201d which was made during Covid and then locked away for years only to break out to terrorize viewers in June, was a 90-minute Zoom call with Ice Cube. In an otherwise empty office, he saves earth from an alien invasion <em>from his desk<\/em>. Optometrist waiting rooms are more exhilarating.\u00a0Forget 2025 \u2014 this is one of the lousiest of the decade.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>James Corden voiced No Name Smurf in the abysmal \u201cSmurfs.\u201d <span class=\"credit\">AP<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u2018Smurfs\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>I smurfing loathed it. Some might say it\u2019s mean <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/17\/entertainment\/smurfs-review-rihanna-james-corden-star-in-one-of-the-worst-movies-of-the-year\/\">to award zero stars<\/a> to the tiny, talking, blue, Belgian gnomes that were created in the 1950s. You say mean, I say fun! Surely if someone could turn Legos into a clever, emotional hit movie, these filmmakers could do much better than having James Corden play \u201cNo Name Smurf,\u201d an unbelievably stupid character who goes on an agonizing quest to find his purpose. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>The star power of Colin Farrell and Margot Robbie couldn\u2019t save \u201cA Big Bold Beautiful Journey.\u201d <span class=\"credit\">\u00a9Columbia Pictures\/Courtesy Everett Collection<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u2018A Big Bold Beautiful Journey\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>I can\u2019t write the perfect word to describe <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/09\/18\/entertainment\/a-big-bold-beautiful-journey-review-colin-farrell-and-margot-robbie-star-in-big-bag-of-bs\/\">this offensively bad romantic comedy<\/a>, which revolves around a magic car. But know that it rhymes with \u201cChitty Chitty.\u201d The star power of Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell was not nearly enough to salvage the sappy turd, the cliched script of which was practically a pile of the worst motivational posters ever Scotch Taped together.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Netflix\u2019s \u201cThe Electric State,\u201d starring Millie Bobby Brown, is one of the most expensive movies ever made. <span class=\"credit\">Paul Abell\/Netflix<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u2018The Electric State\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>Since \u201cAvengers: Endgame,\u201d Anthony and Joe Russo have directed exclusively awful movies. It\u2019s practically in their contract. The worst yet was also, somehow, one of the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/03\/13\/entertainment\/the-electric-state-review-netflix-spent-320-million-on-a-movie-youll-hate\/\">most expensive films ever made <\/a>\u2014 with a reported cost of $320 million. Why did it take such a staggering amount of money to have Chris Pratt and Millie Bobby Brown pal around with extremely annoying robots that look like the Bob\u2019s Big Boy mascot on Netflix? Beats me.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>\u201cElla McCay\u201d was James L. Brooks\u2019 first movie in 15 years. <span class=\"credit\">\u00a920th Century Studios\/Courtesy Everett Collection<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u2018Ella McCay\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>This one stung. James L. Brooks is a comedy icon who gave us \u201cBroadcast News,\u201d \u201cTerms of Endearment\u201d and \u201cThe Simpsons.\u201d And for <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/12\/10\/entertainment\/ella-mccay-review-james-l-brooks-first-movie-in-15-years-is-cheesy-and-interminable\/\">his first film in 15 years<\/a>, he pumps out the unwatchable \u201cElla McCay,\u201d which is even worse than \u201cSpanglish.\u201d The movie turns seasoned actors like Jamie Lee Curtis into hammy amateurs. And the screenplay \u2014 with details as specific as Ella becomes governor of \u201cthe state she was born and raised in\u201d \u2014 has been mocked to high heaven on social media for weeks.
