At the Caribbean Music Awards, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/shenseea\/\">Shenseea<\/a> (dancehall), Lila Ik\u00e9 (reggae) and Patrice Roberts (soca) were named the female artists of the year, while Valiant (dancehall), Romain Virgo (reggae) and Skinny Fabulous (soca) reigned as the male artists of the year. <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/masicka\/\">Masicka<\/a>\u2018s Generation of Kings took home dancehall album of the year, and <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/buju-banton\/\">Buju Banton<\/a>\u2018s Born for Greatness was crowned reggae album of the year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t2024 was a particularly poignant year for Banton, the voice behind reggae classics like \u201cMurderer\u201d and \u201cChampion.\u201d Last July, Buju sold out New York\u2019s UBS Arena two times over with his <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/lists\/buju-banton-new-york-concert-5-best-moments\/\">first Stateside shows<\/a> since spending eight years in federal prison on convictions of conspiracy\u00a0to possess with intent to distribute five or more kilograms of cocaine, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug-trafficking offense and using communication wires to facilitate a drug-trafficking offense. The Grammy winner turned his Long Walk to Freedom shows into a <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/music\/rb-hip-hop\/buju-banton-announces-overcomer-world-tour-following-first-us-shows-in-13-years-see-the-dates-1235729072\/\">14-date U.S. arena trek<\/a> that found him visiting major cities like Houston, Chicago and Atlanta.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tBanton wasn\u2019t the only West Indian icon to make a long-awaited return to the stage in 2014. Likkle Addi\u2019s father is, of course, Vybz Kartel \u2014 who brought both him and Likkle Vybz onstage to perform at his blockbuster Freedom Street homecoming concert on New Year\u2019s Eve (Dec. 31, 2024).<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tKartel and Addi teamed up for \u201cM.O.T.M. \u2014 Man of the Match\u201d in September 2024, and in just three months, the song has become Addi\u2019s second to cross one million streams on Spotify following 2021\u2019s aptly titled \u201cPopular,\u201d also featuring Kartel. That album also featured a collaboration with Umpa (\u201cTop\u201d), cementing the pair as two of St. Lucia\u2019s defining voices.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tLike Umpa, Shemmy J owes the world a few road anthems in the coming weeks.
