filming \u201cGreat Expectations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The pair, who starred together in Alfonso Cuar\u00f3n\u2019s 1998 film adaptation of the Charles Dickens classic, recently reunited to discuss the movie and the one scene that Paltrow refused to do.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo you remember Alfonso pitching you the love scene?\u201d Hawke, 55, asked Paltrow, 53, during a video for <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=KR72Crg0zKM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Vanity Fair<\/a> published on Dec. 17.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>\u201cI was like, \u2018Oh, my God, my father\u2019s going to have a heart attack,&#8217;\u201d the \u201cShakespeare in Love\u201d star recalled. <\/p>\n<p>Hawke went on to detail how the film\u2019s director pitched the sex scene idea to him and Paltrow  27 years ago.<\/p>\n<figure ecstasy,\u201d Cuar\u00f3n, 64, said at the time. \u201cAnd then when you reach ecstasy, the light will explode like the sun!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But that was when the \u201cSe7en\u201d star put her foot down on the idea.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd I remember looking at Gwyneth, and Gwyneth is like, \u2018Alfonso, I\u2019m never going to do that,&#8217;\u201d Hawke recalled, as Paltrow laughed beside him.<\/p>\n<p>Paltrow acknowledged that she felt \u201creally self-conscious about my dad and grandfather seeing this kind of stuff\u201d during her early Hollywood career, and it \u201creally added.<\/p>\n<p>Still, the \u201cBefore Sunrise\u201d actor praised his former co-star for the way she handled the situation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou had an awareness of the way that the business works, Expectations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hawke\u2019s latest film, \u201cBlue Moon,\u201d was released on Oct. 24 and stars the Golden Globe nominee <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/10\/17\/entertainment\/blue-moon-review-ethan-hawke-is-unrecognizable-and-transfixing-in-sad-witty-broadway-tale\/\">as Broadway lyricist\u00a0Lorenz Hart.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Paltrow, meanwhile, portrays Kay Stone opposite Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet\u2019s Marty Mauser in the newly released <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/12\/17\/entertainment\/gwyneth-paltrow-son-reacts-to-her-marty-supreme-timothee-chalamet-sex-scenes\/\">ping-pong drama \u201cMarty Supreme.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<figure
