{"id":2215140,"date":"2025-12-29T04:53:21","date_gmt":"2025-12-29T04:53:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/?p=2215140"},"modified":"2025-12-29T04:53:21","modified_gmt":"2025-12-29T04:53:21","slug":"tejano-music-legacy-lives-on-in-new-san-antonio-museum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/tejano-music-legacy-lives-on-in-new-san-antonio-museum\/","title":{"rendered":"Tejano music legacy lives on in new San Antonio museum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div data-block-type=\"text\" data-dropcap=\"false\">\n<p>Tejano music and West Side Sound legends saw their legacies grow ever more enduring this December when the Totally Tejano Hall of Fame and Museum held its grand opening inside the same building that houses <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mysanantonio.com\/entertainment\/music-stage\/article\/New-Tejano-station-98-9-FM-KLMO-K-Alamo-San-13788930.php\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Tejano radio station KLMO.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-block-type=\"text\" data-dropcap=\"false\">\n<p>Artists like Sunny Ozuna, Johnny Hern\u00e1ndez, Patsy Torres, Cecilio Garza, Balde Mu\u00f1oz, Jaime DeAnda, Ray Ray Garcia, Fernando Aguilar, Sonny Ace, and many others were in attendance for the dedication and took some time to share their musical journeys and memories they cherish.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-block-type=\"text\" data-dropcap=\"false\">\n<p>The Totally Tejano Hall of Fame and Museum is the brainchild of Roger Hern\u00e1ndez, founder of En Caliente Productions and Totally Tejano Television. The venue features plenty of memorabilia, including music awards, albums, instruments, photos, newspaper articles, posters, city proclamations, and more.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-block-type=\"text\" data-dropcap=\"false\">\n<p>Musicians and their families also donated many outfits from the artists\u2019 stage performances and album covers. On exhibit is the prison uniform Mel Villarreal of Los Unicos wore on the cover of the 1972 album <i>20 A\u00f1os<\/i>; a blue and beige shirt with horses worn by accordionist <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mysanantonio.com\/entertainment\/article\/flaco-jimenez-dies-20797565.php\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Flaco Jim\u00e9nez<\/a>; and a full outfit, including a cowboy hat and boots, worn by Eva Ybarra, known as \u201cLa Reina Del Acorde\u00f3n.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-block-type=\"text\" data-dropcap=\"false\">\n<p>Connecting the front of the museum to a back area, which will be filled with more memorabilia in the future, is a small hallway with photos of late Tejano music industry professionals who made their own special impact, including Manuel Davila, founder of KEDA-AM Radio; Domingo Pe\u00f1a, radio\/TV personality and host of <i>The Domingo Pe\u00f1a Show<\/i>; and Roland Garcia, co-founder of Hacienda Records.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-block-type=\"text\" data-dropcap=\"false\">\n<p>Ozuna, a Tejano and soul singer, is best known as the frontman of Sunny &amp; the Sunglows. His 1963 hit \u201cTalk to Me\u201d became one of the first songs by a Mexican American artist to earn success on the pop charts.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-block-type=\"text\" data-dropcap=\"false\">\n<p>\u201cThis [museum] has been a long time coming,\u201d Ozuna said. \u201cTejano has its own culture. It\u2019s all over the world now. It\u2019s a good feeling that we\u2019re being recognized for our craft and all the work we\u2019ve done in the music industry.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-block-type=\"text\" data-dropcap=\"false\">\n<p>Torres, a singer and songwriter, helped shape Tejano music on the national stage. She was the first Tejano artist to film a music video and one of the first women to form her own band. For her, the Totally Tejano Hall of Fame and Museum is important to the community because Tejano music is a genre the entire family can listen to together.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-block-type=\"text\" data-dropcap=\"false\">\n<p>\u201cIn genres like pop, rap, and rock, the adults and kids like [different styles],\u201d Torres said. \u201cBut with Tejano, the whole family can enjoy it. That\u2019s the beauty of Tejano and why I love it.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-block-type=\"text\" data-dropcap=\"false\">\n<p>Debbie Castillo, the eldest daughter of Sonny Ace, smiled as she watched her 92-year-old father pose for photos in front of one of his old suits and a black and white photo from when he was a teenager. In the 1950s, he was an emerging voice of San Antonio\u2019s West Side Sound.
